Game Mods

When the game was first issued I found it difficult to follow the action with the info boxes, maps and units provided, especially when zoomed out to cover large areas. However, there are now enough mods available to provide a set of graphics which work for me, although as has often been said, these are a matter of taste and preference.

I am using a map which is a combination of the work of Agent S and TH1207, which has generally lighter colours and works well when zoomed out to the large areas you need to cover in the Pacific theatre. The Agent S land area graphics are easy on the eye and let the units show up well, TH1207 has provided a set of graphics which look like coloured pencil marks for borders, sea areas, etc., which go nicely with the map.

The Romdanzer counter mod provides a good board game look, which goes well with the map I am using, although some of stock unit colours are too dark (especially the US blue). Using the countries.csv guide, that Agent S posted, I have modified the unit colours to match the map. I am still using mainly stock colours, but swapped them between countries, so that those with more units available use lighter colours (Bleck- I know a good modders guide was provided, but the Agent S countries.csv sceenshot provided the idiots' guide I needed). Peter 123 also has a range of good unit icons.

I am using GWGardiners 'blank box mod so that I can see the action through the transparent combat report box and changed the text to black, so that it shows up better on the lighter map.

I know some people will say that this should not be necessary and the game should be good enough for everyone from the start, but I you ask 10 people for views on graphics you will get 10 answers. I think the game has reached the point where most people’s preferences can be accommodated, so I would recommend anyone who has doubts about the game to look at the modders threads. For those who don't want to have to modify game files I expect that the Developers will add some of the mods as standard selectable game options, which is what has now become available for 'Time of Wrath'.

The point of all this is that I now have a graphics set that I like and works very well for me at most map scales, so I am now off to launch a Pacific scenario. Thanks to all those who have provided mods and to the Developers for making it possible.

Is the game perfect ? - No, but it's pretty good and getting better.[:)]

Perhaps you could post up your cut and paste and call it frankenstein's bastard-love child mod.[:D]

Not as bad as Frankenstein's efforts, but needs some of the stiches taken out before being good enough for a game option, but solves a lot of the problems I have been having.[8D]
