What games can you not play for a while, go back to, and then play constantly for a long time, put them away again, but always go back eventually?

That's an easy question for me: despite all the latest and greatest, I keep returning to Matrix' signature game, which is Steel Panthers: World at War, using the Enhanced version by Alby's dedicated team. This group of fans, with assistance from programmer Michael Wood, has made this game a bonafide classic. It is only in this game that I can fight out the Marines' war in the Pacific. Of course, I contributed a bit to the USMC OOB and to one of the Mega Campaigns, so it also bears my personal stamp.

SPWAW (enhanced), ED2BTR, WITP (PACWAR), WIR (soon to be superceded) [:)]. I have been playing all of these games from their first SSI commercial release and they have managed to end up on any new computer I have set up.

Harpoon - the original 360 game from the early 90s. I think the disks are still up in the loft but I've copied the lot, about 30 floppies, to a CD. Which reminds me, maybe it's about time to re-copy that, too.

The original Ghost Recon, too, if I'm looking for a straight FPS with no frills.

And the original TOAW, too. I'm starting to see a pattern here - when did I last buy a game?????

Not much, on thinking about it. Sword of the Stars and X3: Terran Conflict, maybe. Minecraft will probably be another, but still early days for that.

[*]Matrix Games
-For the last 5 years WITP & WITP-AE
(Actually I haven't played anything else ... but here are some I load up from time to time for a few hours at a time)

-SPWAW (except the graphics are getting old and my computer doesn't like it ... wish matrix had the opportunity to upgrade this beauty)

[*]Other (Pacific Theatre Operations games) - yes it's crazy that I take a break from witp with these ...
-Carrier Strike & PTO II
-World War II Battles of the South Pacific

[*]Misc
-Orion 2
-UFOgold + others
-colonization (the original again)
-M.A.X 2
-F1GP3 - (just played recently for the end of the F1 season)
-While Herston likes X3 - I prefer x2: the threat
-Victoria I (original and still the best)
-RR tycoon II
-MotorCity (Oldtimer)
-WarZone 2100
-Deuterios (amiga?? through Stream emulator)
-Reunion
-Total War: Rome & Medieval

Just bought Armada 2526 which I'm enjoying so far. Good value for $20-

Thinking about getting --
GG - Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich
GG - World at War: AWD
Panzer Command: Kharkov - so I can get the upgrade. I believe it's for free..
John Tiller's Campaign Series

Lots of years ago I dated a girl. I found some things about her that I didn't like and we broke up. Some time later we dated again and those same things were still there. I bought a car and after owning it a while there were things I didn't like and sold it. Some time later I bought another one and soon found the same dislikes. Epiphany.

I have had a few games that I played until all the bad came out. When I return to them some time later, I remember the stories above and quickly see all the reasons that I quit playing them.

I still go back from time to time and play the old games but it always turns out the same.

TOAW. I've played it since Vol I when I think it was a Talonsoft game. If you have not tried it with the latest update from the guys here, you need to check it out. It looks and plays like a new game. Over Thanksgiving in addition to finally getting COTA on sale, I put TOAW III back on my hard drive and downloaded the new update. It is great.

Almost forgot, TOAWIII worked without any problem on my new Win 7 computer with a wide screen and with no adjustments of any type.
