Defence station as mining outpost

Hi i just tried to create an mining defence station. The reason i tried this, was be course this design does not force you to place a gas or mining component, so you can have a pure luxury mining station.
Is there any drawback in doing it this way?
The station is mine now, and i can dismantle it if i want to. The upkeep cost of the station is on the state budged instead of the private sector. But that shouldn't make a difference as far as i know.
And why does a mining station force you to have either an gas or mining component, when all you need sometimes is the luxury gatherer?
