German flag mod

Here is a little graphical mod to replace the German iron cross fag with the swastika one in the game interface for added realism.

Disclaimer and note for moderators: I just designed this for myself to add historical realism when playing, and as i saw others asking about this in the past, i have decided to make it public. But this is the first time i create and release a mod for a matrix game, and i also know that the symbol used is banned in Germany, so if there is any problem with it being published here even hosted by me, please let me know asap and feel free to delete this thread.

Click here to download the mod and unzip both files (overwriting current ones) into the folder named:
C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\Dat\Art\Gui

In the zip i'm also including both original files in case you want to go back to those, i have renamed them to:
infopanel-WH.old.bmp
German chip.old.tga

In game screenshot with the new graphics:

UPDATE:

I have re-done now all the vehicles/weapons/aircrafts pictures and all the leader ones with the swastica flag.

You can download them here: Click here to download the pics

Unzip them in the folder: C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\Dat\Art\photo\ and overwrite the current ones if asked. In the same zip i'm also including a folder named "german_default" with all the default pictures just in case you want to get back to them.

Here are some samples, i have added some dust to the flag to look like the old pictures, what i couldn't do is to add transparency as else the original tricolor flag would appear under the new one.

Feel free to ask or suggest any other graphical mod and i'll give it a try. While i'm new to Matrix games graphical modding, i have plenty of experience designing mods and even full interfaces for other games (specially sports sims).

It should be ok to stay..

Also I would hope that such mods will be posted in the forums soon enough without a problem. I know some other companies (paradox) have a really strict no swastikas and no talking about swastikas policy but that doesn't seem to be the case here (as an email warning me about my conduct comes whizzing in!).

No problem with us, feel free to post your mods in the Mods and Scenarios sub-forum. We're limited in what we can do because of German laws, but there's no restriction on mods.

Regards,

- Erik

Anyone else find it ironic that a law banning the display of the swastika, etc., is so damn nazi-like? The fact that this anti free speech law results in the entire rest of the world having to play games without swastikas even worse?

Wish the Germans would change this stupid law as I find it very cheesy indeed to see all these WW2 games without swastikas in them. Particularly since it has been nearly 70 years...

This is not the place to debate this political issue, please. There are many reasons why people would rather not see it, but ultimately is is a historical flag and we have no problem with posting mods that include it for historical accuracy.

too many people have to much reasons to be schoked and offended by viewing this damned flag, my father had fighted 2 years against nazis armies but here we are playing a wargame and there is no matter with flags or type of units we play with ,isn't it?
with an other wargame i'm playing japan side , i kwow they were criminals of war but it's not the way i take pleasure to play the amazing wargame war in the pacific !!
