Has someone ever sunk this ship in an air raid?

One time this thing comes down from Truk and i got it somewhere near Lunga.

This thing seems to eat bombs and torpedos, with many hits ineffective and not penetrating the armor.

Good the AI seems to make rare use of this metal-monster:D

There's a thread on somebodies success on this somewhere.

Just the sight of that monster in a surface battle makes me want to run away:) I do not have the pleasure of hitting her with bombs or torps but it did take quite a lot of hits to sink her and Musashi in the real war. Its a shame both of them and Shinano never really came to show their potential power. Thinking about my last remark again I am happy that they never did because that would have meant Americans getting killed.

Hmm, hadn´t she sunk the CVE Gambier Bay or so?

I used my normaly hidden carriers against her, because i dont want a surface meeting:-)

I was just 'adjusting' scenario 17 in order to add the Yamato to the Shoho's TF, plus some other stuff, just so I can get an early crack at the beast. Haven't found her yet though. I want to see how much punishment the ship can take. (or dish out)

I think a lot. I´ve seen 1000lb bombs bouncing of her deck and uneffective 22" torp hits of my avengers.

I saw a 4000lb bomb in the editor, but i´ve to use a Lancaster to drop that stuff:D

Yes, she was part of Kurita's force in the battle off Samar (10/25/44). If it hadn't been for the determined air attacks and brave efforts of the destroyer escort there would have been many other escort carriers (and maybe some troop-laden transports) lost as well. The whole Leyte campaign is quite a mix of spectacular air and surface engagements.

Just read about the sinking of that ship and no IJN ship was identified as being the "killer".

Funny thing I read about the doom of Gambier Bay:
"The lookouts kept on with their jobs. One sailor approached a lookout as he peered out towards the cruisers."How ya doin?" the utterly relaxed lookout asked.

I wonder how they managed to surprise the american fleet that way.

Strange too the last trip of the Yamato, anyone knows if there are other major ships with her, or was she really alone, only with her destroyer escort?

I heard she only had enough fuel to reach her destination, because they know they wont ever return?

I believe she had DDs with her. Any yes, It was a one way trip with no fuel to get back. They wanted to beach her I believe and use her guns against the american ships.

I heard from them the best way to die is in the moment of total perfection.
But i´m shure, except their traditional officers, not all of the crew members had that thoughts.

And of course, leaving her at home hadn´t helped also.

Yamato also had CL Yuma I think too with food enough for 5 days. Both were sunk well short of Okinawa. The plan was to shoot up anything left floating around after a 10 day mass Kamikaze attack.

Not Yamato, but Musashi........with 2 PT boat torpedoes and 4 500lb bombs from P39s, believe it or not. Read my post under AARs entitled Battle of Bonis for more details...........................

With the beasts have numbered about a dozen at this point. Having sunk both Yamato and Musashi at least four times each, I have to say they definitely take some punishment. Usually about 13 1000lb bombs and 9 torps, or the exact opposite. Those monsters scare me.

Oh, and CL Yahagi went down with Yamato IRL.

I knew it started with a "Y". Couldn't find my Samuel Eliot Morison...

Not bad, must be very very lucky hits:-)

I need 3 days of attacks from my carriers to tell her to go home:D

But in real live i will say its impossible.
