This 7 year old computer of mine is struggling a bit to run the game; the processor is a 1.8 ghz Celeron. I bought a memory module to push the total to 1.5 gig, but the game still is sluggish.

I started a 1941-1945 campaign, playing the Sovs, with the computer running the Axis-Germs; it's first turn took a bit over 1 1/2 hours.

If I push the computer to 2 gig of memory, how much will that help? Again, it's a 7 year old computer, the motherboard maxes out at 2 gig that it can use.

It will help - your processor is really just below the minimum spec, as a Celeron is not really equivalent to many other processors at that frequency, but more memory can definitely help overcome that. Keeping the game in memory rather than swapping out to the hard drive is always helpful.

IMHO you're throwing away money on memory for an old rig. You can probably buy a 2nd hand computer with better specs than yours for a fraction. Or upgrade to a good decent (not top of the line) for a little more. You don't need all the latest - just a basic motherboard ,cpu & gpu.

Yep I know money is tight all over ... but 7 years is a long time in computing. Luckily these days people don't need to upgrade every year like I did back in the late 80's / early nineties. Nothing is future proof, but in today's tech market change will still happen at the tip of the tech band (high fps gaming etc); but most of us just need an average box and it probably won't need upgrading for quite a while.

I tend to squeeze as much life as I can out of my board and processor.

Hopefully it won't die a violent death, such as what happened with someone else's computer, mentioned on this forum.
