What is the First Thing You're Going to Do After the Expanded Modding Tools Come Out?

I'm going to make a scenario with an accurate home system for the humans and fool around with hyperdrive speed if possible by then create a bunch of new textures for planets and moons that can be added to work alongside the vanilla textures *fingers crossed for this feature*. Might try to recreate an accurate model of the universe as we know it currently :D.

Would you mind giving the biggest additions to modding of the expansion?

Expanded modding has been promised for the first post-release patch. One of the things mentioned was additional control over race relations settings in a text file, rather than just from the in-game editor.

Right now, the additions at release include (in races.txt)

1. Ability to define a special government
2. Ability to define tech focus 1 and tech focus 2
3. Up to 22 shipsets can now be used.

Its all I can think of atm, since I'm at work without the game available.

I'll just add a few more since I've got the luxury of having the races.txt file open.

4. Ability to set a race as a pirate or not
5. Ability to set a race as expanding/colonising or not
6. Ability to set a race as playable or not
7. Ability to increase the number of races to, I think it's 40.

This is pretty good especially considering our number 1 priority was to get more shipsets and more races. I also really like the expansion setting.

#7 Elliot suggests no more than 40 races, but it is apparently unlimited. However, the game won't run too hot with too many added races. That is the way I understood him at least.

Yes, I think I read that somewhere. Just imagine a game with 40 races. I think that's more than enough really. Until we get bigger maps and more stars that is.

I'm adding a few, but with the intention of making some races non-empire races (IE they are just in there as independents to be assimilated), which means at the very least making them non-colonizing.

Ah yes, you're basic 'Space Ogre' race. I'm definately going to add a few of those to my mods. If we could just have a setting now that will prevent them building any ships, we could have pre-industrial civilizations.

I want to mess with weaponry and ranges and tools like that. I like different races... and I will like giving them their own flavor.

Well, since I made my space ogres have aggression 150, intelligence 50, caution 50, Friendliness 50, Loyalty 50 it worked out for me. Big, Stupid, Space Ogres who you had to conquer but were never able to develop on their own.

Technically Igard, if you'll note in the races file, You should be successful in creating your
"Pre-industrial" type race if you tinker with the following at low settings:
Intelligence
Aggression
Caution
and set Expanding to No.

Although, I don't believe at the moment one can create a "true" Pre-industrial race because the
"Prime Directive" will definitely be interfered with sooner or later and contaminate the race.
Then, just like Earth in the mid 1990's, up goes an orbiting space station. Then some fool will
develop and test a hydrogen powered engine, which will be seen by some spacefaring race like the
Teeken or Shandar..... You know the rest of the story.... [:D]

I'll play around with it and see what happens.

However, even if they're independant colonies, won't they still have freighters and such?

I believe so, since we can't have any control over the private enterprising
that goes on. I'm sure though that Elliot could possibly patch something that
would allow a non-spacefaring planet or race to exist.
