Can I walk from Kyushu to Honshu?

I have landed on Kyushu and once I tidy up I want to invade Honshu. According to the map rail lines run between the islands. Can I march to Honshu, or do I have to do an amphibious assault?

Thanks, I tried to march to the first city in Honshu but the unit would not take the destination and the message flashed by too quick. At the time the unit below the circle was there, but not the units in the same hex. I presume they arrived from Honshu and the bottom unit was the one that was preventing me from marching. The AI got a lot of units to counter attack fairly quickly.

That base on the top is a size 10 port. After I took it I parked 1/2 my fleet here. Load up the BB's, and bombard the daylights out of some poor port. Aircraft took their tool though, but I am here to stay.

That whole area is key to the defence of Japan IMO. I'm serious when I say you should start sorting it out on day 1, for a PBEM anyway.

I have to clean up Nagasaki first , but the real key to the end game is going to be Hiroshima/Kure. There is a level 10 airfield to be had and that will allow me to base all my 4 engine bombers, yes, all of them.

Because the strait size is so small and the hex size is so big, does this represent (I don't know what you call it it's like an anagram) where tons of little ships are the same thing as a bridge?

I am very early into a Downfall game. I am curious, where were your first landings on Kyushu and why ?

Hi All,
In the "Downfall" games I have played, I was able to "walk" as stated above.
Also able to use "strategic" movement as well, once I established bases on Honshu.

Well I soften up all the airfields for about a month. Sweeps and airfield bombing for 4E and 2E bombers. Losses to date are about 12k Japanese aircraft vs 4K Allied. P-47 and P-51 at 40K rule. Fukuoka was first because it is a size 10 port. Nagasaki had too many troops. Fukuoka allowed me to trap everything else. I think I landed 6 Divisions and it fell on the second day. Be care full though. Your fleet will want to past through Fusan and it's loaded with mines. I escorted with every CV & CVL I I had. I lost one CV and 1 CVL, had 12 hit by kamikazes, 3 of these are pretty banged up and will be out for months. Cap did well but every once in a while a small strike would sneak in almost untouched. 12 Betty's got 2 torpedo hits on Bunker hill and a sub finished her off the next day. Same thing for a CVL. The kamikazes usually don't cause much flotation damage. Lost 1 BB to torpedoes. Lost hundreds of carrier aircraft but managed to keep the invasion on track. Lost a bunch of APA's and LST, mostly kamikaze and coastal guns. After the port was captured I still had to escort but size 10 is letting me move whole divisions in and unload quick. AI tired to keep sweeping and bombing the airfield, but once I had enough engineers the P-47's are keeping things open. Kagoshima went a week later escorted by all my CVE's. They help back the air-strikes but is took 10 days and reinforcements to finally take the port. Guess there was more AV there. As mentioned, 12,000 lost aircraft on the Japanese side so the air-strikes are staring to slow. Medium bombers sometimes get through and kamikazes always get through. I lose a LST or LSD and an escort every day. Every supply and reinforcement convoy needs to be escorted. I should have the Kyushu locked up in a month. Will full supply and loaded airbases I can start grinding away at Honshu.I will have lots of bombers and full divisions. a human player would make it impossible to cross but I if I had to I would make another amphibious landing on the Sea of Japan side. Haven't done much land warfare in WITP so I have alot to learn. Lots of big city's to reduce.

If you hit "F6" it shows the hexsides. Then you can see that hexside is traversable both by land and water. And by air, but that's implied.
