Inpassable terrain!

Why isn“t there any inpassable terrain in SPWAW. Large rocks, heavy forest and wide ditches would make infantry more valuable and the game more realistic. The only inpassable terrain that is, is houses (and stone walls!?), both wooden and stone. I think that a combat tank from WWII can move through a house (especially a wooden) with a small chance of beeing immobilized and would run over a wall easily.
Maybe this will change to version 3.0.

You never know, Alexis, it just might.

I do have a problem with the word "impassable" terrain.

What do we mean when we say that? Terrain impassable to tanks, to wheeled vehicles, to infantry? To everything?

Literal "impassable terrain" is virtually non-existent. Even during WW2 infantry got to where they weren't supposed to be able to, time and time again.

Now if we are talking about terrain closed to vehicles or AFVs, that is another matter.

I assume from the context, Alexis, you are referring to the latter.

If so, it could happen Image

I would wolcome this enhancement to the playing system.

I see it as terrain that would be impassable to wheeled (already featured after a fashion) and also tracked vehicles.

Some terrain (cliffs) should be impassable to infantry, too within the timescales of the engagements that are modelled in SPWAW, unless they are special units (Rangers, Commandos) that would have been trained to negotiate such obstacles. This refinement may be too difficult to model.

It would make the re-creation of a whole host of interesting scenarios (fighting in mountainous terrain occurred in many theaters and the terrain is not really reproduceable with the current available elevation range and terrain system).

I would love to see cliffs. Make D-day and coast raid scenarios that much better!

I also wouldn't mind some revision of the impassable calculations. I have never (with any tank from a Tiger to a PZ II) seen a stone wall not immobilize any vehicle. Now, for smaller tanks this is probably realistic, but there should at least be some chance for the larger vehicles to blow through the wall, perhaps depending on its speed at the time of impact. Not essential, but nice if it were able ot be done-not that there aren't enough outstanding features already.

Maybe it is... or maybe it isn't! Here's what David Heath said would be in v3.0, the whole thing is http://www.matrixgames.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001205.html
Trenches, improved looking Gully, Sand Dunes, Sand Depression, Snow Banks, Cliffs (Impassable Terrain except for Special Forces), Small Rocks, Large Rocks, Desert brush and we are hoping hills that you can really tell a level difference and maybe different Ice with differnt thickness.
Damn those guys have too much extra time. Don't they know they should focus on publishing the next version and leave improvement suggestions to us?!? What are they insinuating, anyway? That we should shut our mouths and just play the damn game???
