I was trying "Operation Cartwell" after 1.11 installed. At first turn, I sent a bomber sortie with escort to Lae and air intercept occurrs. Now strange thing happens: All 6 intercepting Ki-43-IIa Oscar planes are destroyed ( number reaches 0) and they still keep firing and kept being destroyed!

Here is an extract of the combat report. Unfortunately, it does not record the sequence of things happend.

Looks like "Fog of War" feature. You get 6 intercepting fighters reported by your pilots but there maybe many more that have not been spotted by you guys.

Even more likely, your fighter pilots are overclaiming - a common occurrence in every air service. 80 escorts vs 15 interceptors is going to net you a ton of multiple engagements, leading to several pilots claiming each enemy aircraft that goes down. Still comes under the heading of "Fog of War," though.

Is it actually a built-in feature to overclaim the kills?

How does it affect the Intelligence report on A/C losses?

The intelligence report on A/C losses must be accurate because it it used to compute the game score

In the combat report with FOW on, you can assume that there is always some overclaiming ... as it was in 1942

Hi,
I beguin to feel that air-raids against bases cause way too much casualties on the ground.
Yesterday, Port Moresby staged a massive air strike against my IJN base at Lae; 203 planes of which 55 were escorting fighters and the rest a wide array, from A-20 Havocs to B-26s and also P-39 fighter-bombers. They plastered my airfield, reporting 85 bomb hits on the runway, destroying 7 aircraft on the ground with some 20 damaged. So far so good, but the combat report ended with the information... 623 ground casualties suffered! Was the attack directed at my airfield, or at ground troops? Perhaps all targets in a base are attacked by a raid?
There are also continuous small raids on my bases at Buna and Gili Gili; no airfield there, but every raid causes upwards from 100 casualties. I have AA units in all my bases, and they shot-down a few planes, but I still believe ground casualties should be toned-down.
