I have fleets with troop transports at planets with troops (readiness 100). I order the fleet to load troops. After a few seconds the order is canceled and the fleet does nothing. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Is the fleet full? I find that if you order a fleet to pickup from a mostly empty planet, only 1 ship takes the order and the rest just drop the order immediately. It's kinda frustrating when you try to micro them, but it does work if you don't look to closely.

It could also be that another ship (on auto) has selected to load those particular troops, so they're essentially assigned to load already.

PITA, but it happens quite a bit.

The only way I could get them to load was to click on the troop transport and then hover over the planet until the mouse changed to the load troop icon.  Then if I clicked the mouse the ship would move there and load the troop.  Some kind of message saying "that troop is already ordered to be loaded" or "no room for more troops" or something to indicate why the orders are refused would be nice.

Which version and patch are you playing?

I had the opposite problem - Troops that won't unload.

The only odd thing is that another races's troop transport is parked over the planet as if its invading (which it isn't, and we are not at war). It turned up very soon after i had colonised the planet - which i assume it was targeting as well as it had lorus fruit

There are some issues with fleets offloading and loading troops. If that doesn´t work as intended for you, I have found that I have more success if I give the individual ship the command to load or offload troops.

make sure you are patched fully. I assume you are playing with the new expansion. One thing that works well for me is CTRL+Right-click, this allows you to give orders regardless of context. CTRL+Right-click a planet and you should be able to give troop drop off or pickup orders easily. works great for all kinds of issues.

Yeah it seems you really have to micromanage loading and unloading troops at the ship level rather than the fleet level.

I just detach empty troop transports from the fleet and set them on automate. They will generally go get troops on their own.
