Advice is plentiful here,hope it doesnt get like the WitPAE forum where most replies to questions get answered with "read the manuel"[:D]

Well I agree "read the manuel" isn't very useful. However read the manual usually is a good idea![X(]

I don't recommend sitting down with the gaming manual and reading it like a Tom Clancy novel. Instead, read it a bite at a time...when you have a question. Find the answer--play some more--then read again. Learning the game is half the fun.

I'm all for learning while playing.
First pass after playing tutorial, it appears to me the dynamic nature of the game is in the flexibility of move and attack sequence combined with the FOW. This should be quite the challenge. I've signed up for the Ruskies for my first PBEM staring in a few days. While I am a relatively experienced gamer, it always is challenging the first time out. If there are 3-5 pieces of advice to give me, let me thank you all in advance.

At least with this one you can learn while playing. I remember spending about 3 weeks with AE simply opening the game up, looking confusedly around the screen for 20-30 mins, re-reading the manual (again) then rinse-and-repeat for a good 15-20 intervals. I have to say this game hands-down beats AE in the UI and learn-as-you-go departments. Which in turn helps bring a new player into the game, IMO.
