I like the game and I actually liked the graphics of the initial one. But for some reason the French units seem ugly (perhaps because of their brown color or "fuzziness')... Not a big deal, but I hope the next installement will feature more appealing units

mostly the troops... though some vehicles (notably the lorraine APC) are ugly as well
perhaps if they were in blue things would be better ?

The troops are no uglier than the other troops and then only when you zoom in. The Adrian helmet does not show well at all.
The Souma has some awkward spots due to the low poly count. Other units are good enough for me, again considering the low poly count in this game.

Here is a drawing that I found of a different paint scheme.

So was the actual tactic of defeating these French heavies was to run your tank around behind them and plug them from behind?

I think track hits from the front to disable them. They were slow because of the weight. Lighter German tanks could probably maneuver for side shots.

French doctrine was assuming that the tanks will be used as a support for infantry, so the General Staff didn't require high speed.
OTOH Somua was almost equal in speed and weight with Panzer III

The SOMUA S-35 is somewhat strange, a bit too toyish. But ohterwise they look like as I expected.
