Levy step question

Hi all

can one of you help with a rule clarification? According the rule book, bringing feudal corps back to full strength during the December Levy step uses the followiing prodcedure:

"All army factors in the feudal corps are raised in the Levy Check of the December Economic Phase. The Turkish player may elect to bring any or all of the feudal corps up to full strength by removing them from any location on the map, or choosing them from the counter pool, and then placing them in any area in the province of their origin (the province for which the feudal corps is named). This may not be done if that province contains an unbesieged enemy corps, if it is controlled by another major power or if the feudal corps in question is besieged."

Is is necessary to place the Feudal corps on the map during the December Levy step, as implied by the above rule? I thought it was only necessary to remove them from the map, and then they could be placed anytime during the year?

The Turkish player in our game followed the first interpretation, and all worked flawlessly, but I was wondering if he had to place the corps on the map in December, or if he could wait until the spring to muster his troops. The original EIA board game rule is not clear.

I have always been under the assumption of being placed in the home province in December? They could be stood down later.

Hi Marshall
re-reading the original rules, I think you are correct.

The only deviation from the original board game rules I see relates to standing up feudal corps. In the original board game, feudal corps can be stood up in any area in the feudal's home province, but in the Matrix version, standing up Feudal corps is limited to cities within its home province. Any idea why the two sets of rules are different? Is this just a mistake in the rules, but the game operates differently?

I'm not sure if it is limited to cities in the game, but that is what it says in the rules. I suspect the rules are wrong, but does anyone know for sure?

The original rules leave the city part out??? Does anyone have a game close to a levy to test this?
