Please Check Ice Level MP Modifiers

"Note that ice level costs are cumulative with the regular cost to move or attack over river hexsides. "
At level 5, rivers are frozen and have no effect on movement or combat - fine; does this mean that even the baseline (non ice modifers) are not operant if ice level >/ 5?
I do not understand why the MP penalty for ice increases as the ice level increases from level 1 - level 4, but then at level 5 goes to zero. Shouldn't it be the other way - as the ice gets harder the MP should decrease from from (+4 for level 1 light ice) to (+ 1 for firmer ice level 4 ice) and then to 0 for ice level >/ 5?
Thanks.

The more ice in a river, the more difficult it is to bridge it or move a boat across it until it's completely frozen with a thick layer of ice.

I agree - but the MP penalties are less for thin ice than for thicker ice according to the movement/tec chart; +1 for level 1 ice yet + 4 for level ice --> I think it should be reversed to conform with what you wrote.

What I wrote is what happens in the game currently. You can still place a bridge over a river with some ice, or move a boat across it. With more ice, the pillars of the bridge or the boats the bridge is placed on will be under more pressure. When a river is completely frozen with a thick layer of ice, you can move vehicles across it and create a stable bridge for armour.

Okay - so from an engineering perspective it is easier to make a way across flowing water than almost frozen water?
I remeber reading accounts of Russians building bridges of ice to cross rivers... [:)]

Ice, especially moving ice, significantly hinders construction on bodies of water until the water is completely frozen with a thick layer of ice. You can't really build a bridge on thin ice, not for vehicles in any case.

You start with water: piece of cake, people practice this all the time and have competitions about who can bridge it the fastest and rowing is ... well rowing
Add a little ice: Geez that water is cold and you have to heat the bolts to get the ice off and rowing a boat while breaking an ice skim is tiring
Add more ice: Man those hunks of ice make a nasty sound when they hit the pontoon I'm trying to secure and I'll be glad when this stuff freezes all the way and I can carry the damn boat over the ice
Add lots more ice: Everybody grab a pole because if that thing hits a pier the whole bridge will go! (ice floes in a current will destroy just about any temporery bridge)
Really frozen: You know if that smashed up bridge wasn't in the way we could just drive right across

Thanks for the engineering update [:)]
