Dec 6 Washington:
The codebreakers were talking about the latest intercept: "14 pages long coming? We better alert the president."
"But how, he must have gone to bed?"
"We force our way in."
23.00 EST FDRs bedroom.
FDR "My good, you did the right thing. I will call Marshall at once and also give notice to the brittish and dutch what to expect"
A few hours later a warwarning went out to the american and brittish possessions. On Hawaii admiral Kimmel thought about it for a moment
"Hmm, better safe than sorry. Hey sergant, have the radio send out this to our carriergroups. Then have the big ships leave the harbor"
Note said: "Japanese taskforce might sneak up on Hawaii, avoid the islands for now."
Net result of the strike on Hawaii, only a few destroyers, a submarine and some merchants sunk.
After one week it is like this
Prince of Wales with lots of dutch cruisers having fun with japanese troopships north of Borneo and the lonley Huston that retreated from the Philipines found 15 unescorted merchants outside New Guinea and had fun with them:) Wolfpackseason comes early(50 jap ships destroyed within a week had passed of the war, all but two merchants).
A destroyer force intercepted japanese taskforce in the middle of the Malayapenincula(CL, DD and two merchants) and sunk them all.
Will try to hold Singapore, but have made Java my base for the Prince of wales taskforce that soon is joined with the CVE from India.
I should have checked the editor about what the short name for classess were before sending PTs, AMs and 4 DDs up to Lingayen and fight. They lost.
FOW is on.
Torpedoes work fine
