Optimal Screen Resolution

Dear Folk,
Just got the game. Searched Manual under screen resolution, and didn't find much. What is the optimal resolution my computer should be set at?
At 1680x1050 every thing is too small to see even with Huge map setting. The game frame is large but the map doesn't fill it. If I go 800x600 not all the buttons show. Where are these things discussed in the manual?
Thanks,
Mike

It's okay for me at 1920x1080 on a 24 inch Monitor.. There is no optimal resolution, though i would recommend at least 1024x768 as this is the minimal resolution for having all buttons. Certainly depends on the type and size of the monitor one uses.

You do know that you can set the game resolution in the Opart 3.ini file? 1024x768 is about the smallest to get all the buttons, but 800x600 is playable. It all depends on your eyes and the size of the screen you're looking at. The what's new file details how to set it.

The mouse wheel will also zoom the map in and out.

You can also play with the Fonts file to fine tune the display, I've got mine set to not use the bitmap fonts, there's a bit harder to read. I lose the SS symbols, but it's more legible.

There are alternate graphics sets out there with higher contrast too.

As we get older, I've tried to make the UI as configurable as I can. My screen can do 1920x1200, but I set Windows 7 to 125% and run toaw at a lower resolution when I'm not debugging.

I tried altering the screen resolution, but I couldn't get it to work. In the Opart3.ini file, I changed:

ChangeScreenResolution=N
ScreenY=600
ScreenX=800

to:

ChangeScreenResolution=Y
ScreenY=900
ScreenX=1440

and the game launched in 800x600. I also tried 1280x800, 1280x1024, and 1024x768 and everytime, it launched at 800x600. Am I doing something wrong?

Yup, you're right. It doesn't work for me either. No matter what I put in the ini file it always comes up 800x600 stretched to fit my wide monitor.

Um.........if you right click on your desktop you may get a menu that will allow you to change your screen resolution to a "better" size:

That isn't the issue. I think the game is supposed to support it's own resolution without relying on your desktop resolution. Not sure but why else would Ralph bother to put those lines in the ini file? Otherwise you'll constantly change your desktop res.

With version 3.2 that's the way I got the resolution I needed to see all the buttons. I'm hoping we can eventually get the 3.4 version to support the settings in the ini file.

Yes, this was a hassle to be constantly changing my desktop res.

Sorry about that, I guess I was in too much of a hurry to test it thoroughly. I'll try to fix it for the release.
