Hi all, I've decided to do an AAR with my pbem game with Redmarkus4. I will be the Axis and he will be the 'vile' Soviets [:D]. I believe he will also do an AAR. I'll be doing my style of AAR just like I did with all my aborted WitP AE AAR's. I believe do the excitement per week of this game I will not burn out of boredom, bail out or have opponents baling out.

I look forward to playing Red, and also doing this AAR, I always have fun doing my postings. I hope all of you that follow along will be entertained. Let the fun BEGIN!!!

Sit down gentlemen, here is the overall picture of Operation Barbarossa. As you see it is the standard war gamed situation. It is subject to changes at any time. Any question please wait until the briefing is over. As you see the Armee Groups have been colored to match their respective designated colors. Objectives have been labeled and as soon as 50% of the Objective have been met, Barbarossa will end. The next operation waiting for the situation results will be planned and posted.

Infantry Corps will do their best to keep up, most will be in 'flying' op. tempo. Resistance will be pocketed if possible and left for the 'clean up' Corps to take care of. Time is against us so we must push forward as much as we can.

Reorganization of the Panzer Corps will take place as fast as possible. Most will lose their infantry components to stream line their operations. Other infantry Corps will give up extra divisions to fill out Corps that lack their command allotments.

I will now take questions....

Here is the SITREP for AGN.

16th and 18th Armees starting off slowing in 'flying' mode due to large pocket formed to their front. 4th Panzer Group on schedule, have crossed the Daugava River and is meeting no resistance yet. Pskov looks to be within grasp of 4th Group on second week.

Here is the current SITREP for AGG.

Major thing here is the Infantry are getting a good start to their 'flying' ops tempo. I expect the majority of them to be about 2 weeks behind when I hit heavy resistance. A major mistake has happens with 3rd and 4th Panzer divisions, which were accidentally diverted south then had to turn around and head east. This put them and the rest of 2nd Panzer Group a little behind schedule.

Finally the SITREP for AGS.

Generaloberst von Kleist broke with scheduled plan and was tempted into a southern pincer to cut off a sizable portion of the Red Army in the area. It was a tough decision but one that couldn't be passed up. Reorganization of the southern front will have to be done. I expect majority of Soviet units to flee west with little resistance put up initially.

I've decided to follow a Panzer division through the war. If it rotates to the west I'll pick up another arriving division. Here we go for the story of the 9th Panzer Div.

The only comment I would make on your opening moves is I like to kill all the soviet fort units during the initial turn because it saves reducing the pockets on turn 2.

Your pocketing efforts are nicely done! I would be concerned about that little strip near minsk however it looks like he may be able to restablish communication lines easy.

Ah! Commander Ketza...you would happen to notice the one fort I forgotten about [:D] Since this is my first pbem game I may go to far, I don't believe in being to timid though. Who Dares Wins as the SAS say. If the pocket is reestablished then I'll just have to close it up and keep driving on. It will be a great learning experience for me and I'm looking forward to many mistakes [:'(]

If he breaks out in the south as you predict, that panzer div south of the Prut will need air supply for sure. Your infantry haved moved deeply which is always helpful and good.

I think I would have used that panzer div in the southwest of Tarnopol to pin that tank unit.

Supply can probably be restored to all pockets, and the 4 units south of the Panzer corps HQ in the AGS area might be cut off, depending on the MP's the Soviets get (those shouldn't be too great as they start out of supply). 1 corps HQ in the AGN area can be dislocated.

Thanks for the harbinger of doom posting [:D] Since this is my first pbem game I really didn't want to come out to soft and timid. I like to be aggressive but your probably right on all accounts. Lessons will be learned the hard way i guess.

It was more intended as a friendly warning. You learn more from mistakes and defeat than from victory in many cases. I noticed in redmarkus's thread that after playing his turn, all of your forces are probably in supply even though he did break out of the pockets aside from the one near Brest Litovsk.

Well lesson learned on pocketing a actual person. However I feel that Red is being over aggressive in his defense and if he continues he will be pocketed easier. Yes it does slow me down a little but I think that can be over come for the short while.
