Rotating Generals

I've been going through my leadership in my AI game and notice a lot of high ranking officers holding Corps positions. I know that new generals are generated over time but are they higher ranking than Lt.Gen. or Maj.Gen.??? I haven't noticed any so I decided to rotate out most of my generals and above for the lower ranking ones to gain some rank. Anyone else done this?
