Once again into the breach I go with a GC game versus Aurelian. Again I'll be the Axis, I must confess I'm probably becoming a Axis fanboy [X(]. Anyways, I'm doing similar style AAR as I am with Redmarkus. I've changed some things around to mix up the end game some. I'm going to try and stick with my overall plan for Operation Colossus. I'll be doing a war journal for a panzer corps instead of just a division. I'll be doing some things different with that also. Anyone who wants to comment or ask for something just go right ahead and I'll do my best to accommodate you all.

OPERATION COLOSSUS!!!

Same situation as almost every other AAR. I've decided to move all my forces forward instead of pocketing and going around. I figure routed units will pocket just as easy if not more so then unrouted.

I've encountered more resistance this time around then before, a lot of 'held' actions. I'm trying to keep my forces grouped a little closer to allow less area for breakouts.

Sticking to the plan, pushing hard for Kiev instead of doing the southern push [:D]

Here is the bread and butter of the GC IMO. I look forward to following this Corps for the rest of the war, good and bad. I'll obviously will keep you updated to any unit changes to commanders and attachments alike. Hope you enjoy this part of the campaign.

What are your Air Doctrine settings? do you use the AI for Recon and Airfield bombing?

Support units; do you micro manage, and if so what do you assign to your PZs and Mot divs and

Your initial strategy; is it to bring as many units of the SU to battle asap or avoiding battle for deeper penetration into the SU?

Well John, I use 10 for airfield attacks for both bombers and escort.  I also use that for Ground support missions to max. my transports.  The rest I leave on default, at least until they fix the air war.  I manually recon everything and I do the same for airfield bombing.  I can't seem to get these 5000+ kills on the first turn, I only managed 4200 I believe. 

I micromanage SU's heavliy.  I don't really attach anything to panzer divisions but I do attach jagdpanzers do motorized to give them a little extra anti armor ability.  As far as driving into the Soviet Union on the first turns I try and by pass as much as I can safely.  I leave a min. amount of force to clean up pockets.  I like to have some infantry close behind my armor to help out.  Playing against people has taught me that I best close up my pockets tighter than I have before.

Same old stuff everyone else has posted, not a lot of divergence yet to be any different. Not a whole lot to report for AGN, everything flowing smoothly so far.

Aurelian is putting up a checkerboard that I've been able to penatrate so far. 17th Armee will have a hard time of it unless I use 1st Pz. Grp to assist but I will see whats at Kiev first.

No action for the 24th this turn.

I've decided not to continue the 24th Panzer Corps material due to time constraints with 2 AAR's. Sorry to say but this AAR will be a secondary one compared with my Redmarkus AAR. I just plan on doing weekly reports for this AAR and give my general impressions of the situation and thought on strategy.

Situation for AGN is looking great, this is the position where I had hoped to be with my war with Red. My panzer's need some fuel but infantry is catching up. 16th Armee will be probing for a good place to break eastward if necessary.

Again this is the position I was roughly looking for with my war against Red. I guess it helps to have a follow up game to make sure mistakes are fixed along the way[:D] The break through to the south near Gomel is perfect for my initial plan for Colossus.

It will be tricky for 3rd Pz Grp. to refuel while still at the front. 9th Armee will not be able to be much help for another week or more so any breakthrough will have to be on the shoulders of the panzer boys.

The Romanian's and 11th Armee just started operations in the south, no real progress there, but you all know that . This front I believe I have had Aurelian baffled on just what 1st Pz. Grp. was doing. He seems to set up a deep checker board defense to the south of axis of travel. I'm sure this next turn he will back most of his forces out and pile them in front of Kiev. If I do get across the Dneipr I'll have to decide weither to link up with 2nd Panzer Grp. or turn south.

Aurelian threw me for a loop, total suprise....a withdrawl. He seems to be on total force preservation mode. Next turn I'll post casualties and you can see the difference his defense is making [:@]

Again here he withdrew from a major defensive position, the Dnepr River. [&:] You got me, I don't know what evil plans he has in store....possible orbital drop from above? Some defense is around Smolensk but this is the checkerboard type.

If only I had fuel for my panzer I found a nice gap in his defensive line to the south of 1st Pz Grp that will definitely not be there next turn. I expect him to withdrawal from the salient hes in, if he doesn't I will make an attempt to pocket some forces.
