Just saw the below on Blunt Force Gamer, may be of interest to many of you.
just had this in from Scott Hamilton at HPS, with a request to post it:

All new HPS releases will be available in digital download format (as well as CD). We will also go back and make the older games available on DD as well."

That's great news for HPS lovers. Many times I've been there and wanted DD. Now I'm broke as far as game buying goes. [:(] Christmas sales, they get me every year. [:)]

It's been over a month since they made that announcement and they haven't gotten around to it yet...

I wonder if they are going back and make all the older games with that horrible DRM included?

I doubt that and I suspect that may have lead to the split with JT.

Years ago the said they would add the 3D isometric icons to the rest of the Squad Battles series as they did with PacWar or the Proud and Few. Still hasn't happened.

marjur that is John Tiller's website where he is selling his new releases.

We are talking about the old releases and HPS exclusive games at the HPS website.

Any difference? I thought John Tiller and HPS are basically the same thing...

Well there you go.

They went their separate ways a month ago.

Does that mean that all new Tiller's games will only be available through Tiller's website?

You are catching on quick. And there is a two install limit with online activation DRM. Download only I believe.

Yeah the new DRM system sucks royally and I won't buy anything from Tiller Site but I still might pick up some games through HPS. I swear by all that is true I will not give up my freedom to own a game I purchase. It is mine I shall not be restricted to one or two installs because some yoyo thinks everyone is a thief.

Yeah, I know about the limit and activation, but no wonder... the guy finally wants to make money from his hard work considering that fact that so far all his older games have been pirated on a enormous scale...

What makes me wonder is this - are there any HPS games actually not written by Tiller...? I mean, if they got separated, what games will HPS be selling?

Why don't you visit the website and see? They have military contracts that become commercial games like POA.

POA is just one game. Most of their games are various kinds of "Campaigns" and "Squad" games...

ummm can you provide some "documentation" on this? How do you know how much he has been pirated eh? Perhaps you are a member of the pirate corporation and keeper of the books eh? Personally I have yet to ever see a "document" on the amount of piracy that has been done to any game. All I've ever seen are speculated posted numbers pulled out of thin air.

I once wanted to buy their Points of Attack 2. I resigned after I have learned that I would have to pay a high price for postal (I think 16$ or something like that) and wait God knows how long just to get a game on CD on without any printed documentation. It's ridiculous.
They really should offer a digital downloads service.

+1 for me on this.

Interesting how HPS, Matrix, and Shrapnel can survive with no online activation bull$hit. Piracy is just part of world of making PC games. However, as a legitimate customer I shouldn't be treated like a criminal for a crime I never committed. The pirate should not have more ownership over the game than the paying customer. I think JT would have been ok if would have done with the just the Serial number but the Online activation is too far.

Just look around, visit some fora, search the net, google, and you'll see...

Besides, how come he wants the buyers to use activation if not for that reason.

In fact, all sorts of CD/DVD protections and game activation systems are out there because of piracy... If there were no piracy, we wouldn't have to be forced to use them.

I'm glad there will be net activation because I don't particularly like it when I buy a Pz Camp game for $40 whereas five hundred other guys dl it free through P2P...

You're not treated like a criminal, come on!

What about Windows activation? Does it also make you feel like a criminal?
