Hi all

Sorry if this has already been posted, but it would appear that Dick Winters passed away on the 2nd. True to his nature, he asked that his services not be public and not be announced.

Winters was a great man who helped us understand his generation. For those who dont know who this was, he is one of the last survivors from E Co 506th PIR that fought in World War Two and was brought into the spotlight by a number of Stephen Ambroses books.

Yes, this is very sad.  I heard about it yesterday but could not confirm it, so never posted.

A very stoic and heroic man who will be missed. We could use more like him these days.

When your in the military you serve under good officers and bad. There are officers that are truly leaders and there are officers that arent worth a damn. Major Winters from all I have read and seen embodied all the qualities a good officer should have. I hope that future generations of officers can look at his legacy and learn important values and pass them on to thier juniors as time passes.
 
I look back at my own service and can think of one officer that to this day inspires me. As a young airman a scarred from being shot down over vietnam air force major took me under his wing and taught me about leadership and honor. He was in the twilight of his air force career and had no reason to do so. To this day his words inspire me. Major Cathy where ever you are I still salute you.

History should always remember good men, he, (Dick Winters), was one of them. Amen.

Thanks to Major Winters, and all heroes who sacrified to help make the world more just, humane, and peaceful. May we all strive to earn your sacrifice and insure it was not in vain.
