How many squares in a front and how many divisions should an army control?
How close should the army headquarters be to the front so Command and Control Works?
How far back should the regional command - ie Southwest front - be?
All advice appreciated.
Thank you.

Once the SU loses the Corps HQs from turn5 onwards, the Army HQS can hold 24 Command Points worth of units, which is 12 Divisions at 2 points each (brigades are 1point). Some testers like getting rid of Corps HQs from turn 1 onwards but this costs APs.
With regards to frontage; this will depend on circumstances, but I usually plan on 3-4 hexes. 3 hexes with max. 3 stacks still gives 3 units in reserve (I like reserves digging a fall back defence line). 4 Hexes would have no reserves.
5 hexes/20mps is the range for supply and support unit activation.
As long as the army HQ is in normal range (upto 45hexes?) of the Front, the C&C back up die rolls will take place. If you want to get the entrenchment benefit of the Front's construction units, then the army HQ needs to be within5 hexes of the front HQ.

Generally, Soviet armies will be holding a line the size of what an Axis corps will hold and an Axis army might hold a line the size of what a Soviet front will hold. Of course, the Soviets will have more manpower in those areas due to having about 3 times as many divisions on the same frontage as the Axis.
