A couple of basic questions?

:) 1. How do you mine an open sea hex? A mined base shows the tiny dot to left.

2. How do you use the CVE and the AV?

3. How do you determine the potential port and airbase size of an undeveloped location to decide if that is where you should make a landing?

4. What is a Collier?

5. I can transfer ships from the port toan existing TF and from TF to TF. Can you transfer from a TF to the port? I haven't found that you can.

Thanks everyone! I use to play PacWar a long time ago. UV has changed and for the better.

A collier is a vessel used for transporting coal. It goes way back to the pre-oil days of naval propulsion. The first US Navy aircraft carrier, The USS Langley was in fact a converted collier formerly named the Jupiter.

Mines should now be placed in shallow water hexes only. The new upgrade degrades "deep water" minefields by 50% per day. The F2 key toggles the shallow water indicator.

Dave,

Would you care to play a PBEM game with me? I have not played Pac War or UV via PBEM. My only exposure to this theater on this level was the old board game "Flat Top". E-mail me if you would like to try a game.

Good morning Chris,

Absolutely. I haven't played via email for along time. Have to read up on the procedure. If you like, please set it up and send it to dave@fdbc.org

CVE's are used to transport A/C to other bases that are out of range of the A/C, also to replish CV Airgroups at sea and for ASW patrol and CAP for invasions (careful they are soft). AV's are used to up the Airbase support points. By puting supplies on a beach then parking an AV at the beach you can fly Seaplanes/floatplans from that beach.
3. How do you determine the potential port and airbase size of an undeveloped location to decide if that is where you should make a landing?[/B]
By putting the cusor over the beach hex and right clicking you can see the potential port and airfield of that beach. This appears to only work on friendly beach hexes.
4. What is a Collier?[/B]
A coal carrier, Japan used them to transport supplies(or fuel) after coal was no longer used as a ship fuel.
5. I can transfer ships from the port toan existing TF and from TF to TF. Can you transfer from a TF to the port? I haven't found that you can.[/B]
Yes you make new task force with the ships you wish to transfer to the port then disband it.

So am I to assume that a collier can be used as a conventional AK when needed?
