Question Before I Buy

All this looks great, but I have one question before buying: The game is pausable, but can you do anything while it's paused, e.g. change combat orders, access and tinker with the maps, tables, reports, etc.?
Thanks!!!

it's just like a tbs from this point of view

Hi Uncle,

I hate RTS, really hate RTS, but I LOVE Distant Worlds. It is so customizable, you can control so many things, or selectively put them into the hands of your government and military leaders. The AI is very good. Welcome to the community.

An excellent - I am too old and slow for RTS, but DW is great. You can do everything you want while paused, like EU3. Finally a RTS game slow enough for old TBS lovers like me.

hi gmot, oh, I'm not to old for RTS, its the ostio I have in several fingers, makes me wish there was en e-cat to chase my mouse when I try to do quick mouse operations....

I like to linger over the game a bit - enjoy the unfolding story, and plan, etc... so Rotx is more fun that galciv2, sots, and civ4. great avatar, btw. can i use it for a race i'm designing for Rotx?

Absolutely - glad you like it. The avatar is from a life-size puppet play of The Hobbit we went to awhile ago with the kids. This was one of the trolls that turned to stone, if you remember that part.

Yes, gmot, I remember "There and back Again," read that and the trilogy in jr-high, twice through. Was excited when the animated version of the hobbit came out. my kids 'liked' it. i thought it was horrid. When jackson announced he was going to a film version of TOTR, I was, absolutely, it will be awful. I was wrong, it was very good. They even had a cameo of the three stoned trolls in the movie. Now jackson says he will do a film adaption of "the hobbit," - in two parts, LOL. This i want to see.

How did your kinds like all the LoTR and 'burglar baggins' stuff?

Oh. I thought I was the last TBS gamer alive. Good to know I'm not. I usually don't play RT games...poor hand-eye coordination, old eyes, etc. But this looks manageable, and so far, so good.

Oh they loved it - the play's gollum was wonderfully creepy. My 9-year old son especially enjoyed it - he's started reading the Hobbit. Going to make him a Tolkein lover like his dad! Looking forward to seeing the Hobbit film myself.

unclejoe, after seeing what DW is all about I revived my MOO2 archive and I'm playing them both.....these two will be the greatest 4x games ever (in my eyes at least)
