HTTR Strategy Guide?

First of all... congrats on a fantastic game. I'm new to the series having spent the last 400 years on TOAW (all flavours) - with the odd detour into Histwar and Take Command.

Is the HTTR Strategy Guide worth purchasing for BFTB?

Welcome!

Yes and no.

The guide is 189 pages. 1/2 of the guide is specifically devoted to the history and analysis of Market Garden (the subject of HTTR). The other 50% focus on ground combat concepts, equipment/OOB, and game concepts. That portion is applicable to BFTB.

So, you'll have to decide.

If you look, you'll find 3 stickied Mini-Guide (in the HTTR & COTA) forums. They about 500 pages if printed (and were also made available in PDF format for download). Although they ramble a lot more than the HTTR Strategy Guide, you will find that they are 80%+ applicable to BFTB and free of charge.

Enjoy the series.

Thanks for the info - downloaded the PDFs. Yes, I'd noted that 50% covered the Market Garden op itself - that didn't bother me only whether it was still relevant - and since half of it is, I'm gonna buy that as well.

Regarding the series, I'm not planning to purchase HTTR or COTA but I'll certainly be buying the reworked HTTR scenarios for BFTB (and any other expansions for that matter).

I forgot to mention that I wrote the Mini-Guides and did contribute to the HTTR Strategy Guide as well.

COTA had a MarkShot's Top Tips Guide as part of the official doc set. It included beginner game tips and a battle planning checklist (about 20 printed pages). I asked for Matrix to post it as a download for BFTB customers, but I don't think it was. PM me an email address if you want a copy. I don't think anyone will shoot me for giving it to you. However, if you don't hear from me again, then I guess they did.

LOL!

Thanks for the offer, but they did indeed stick it up for download...

Gee ... they do actually listen to me. (wipes away the tears)

As a beta, you need to not expect too much. I mean you are not even a paying customer.
