colleagues, just bought the game and am curious - do I need to download a patch or do the games you download from the net include the patches automatically?

Usually you need the patch. It costs them time, money, and trouble to update the game itself. Some do, but a lot of them don't. It's not a big deal. The latest patch is almost always cumulative, so you'd just need that one, but that's not always a given, either. Just keep checking the forums for the games you have. You'll get the latest news there.
