It appears that if I have a small star port at a colony and I want it to be a medium or a large one instead, that I have to scrap the small one first?

What happens to all the stored resources in the cargo bays if I scrap it - are they gone? I hate to lose all those resources.

If that is the case, wouldn't I be better off just to upgrade the design of the small star port and retrofit it into a medium or large without actually scrapping the old one and building a new one?

If they are built at colonies, you can select them and then right-click on them to upgrade them to a larger version. For whatever reason, this doesn't work any other way. Alternatively, you could just create a second design that's bigger since there's no functional difference between small, medium, large. Whichever works best for you.

That's the one thing I didn't try, and exactly what I was looking for, thanks.

You should also be able to do that through the ships & bases screen when you hit the retrofit button.

i think you will be in 1.5.0.3 or a future pach, similar issues were raised and Elliot is aware of them
