How does supply from Cities / Urban Hexes work?

Hi All,

Hope you can provide some more info on how supply of Cities / Urban Hexes works and if this rule (20.4.2.1) includes towns. The Germans captured Tagnarog last turn and followed up with Rostov & Azov this turn. Figuring the 998 fuel in Tagnarog and 3000 fuel in Azov would work well in my Panzers I finished the turn with an entire Corps next too and in these hexes (incl the HQ). Unfortunately supply only came from Constanza in Rumania and the fuel in the towns was untouched. Is this because they are towns and not Cities / Urban?

How do units use supply from local sources? How do I get the fuel from the towns back into the general supply pool? Is there anything else to know about this type of supply.

Thanks

Andrew

If memory serves me Germans used gas to power their tanks and the Russians used diesel. Hence useless fuel for you? I may be mistaken.

So all those messages saying x tons of fuel captured are irrelevant??? Surely not... The Soviets had no gas anywhere among their 200m people? 100% diesel?

I think that captured fuel goes into your HQ supply dumps. And if I am not mistaken, the Germans used Diesel. It was the Americans that used Gasoline.

In order to use storage in the city you need to connect it to the rail/sea network. Unit may draw supplies directly from the city which is not connected to the rail line only when it is isolated in this city.

That sounds a bit strange. So my troops march across the steppe to capture Kursk, but the city provides no supplies of any kind until the axis rail line comes up behind? The soviets have a 100% effective scorched earth policy?

I think that the incentive to capture and defend cities is too weak in the current version. It needs to be stronger that political or victory points and defence factors. A city is a real prize for a reason...

Germans used petrol (gas) engines in their tanks not diesel, while the Russians used diesel in their tanks. Which is why during the western blitz, the Germans were basically able to pull up to petrol stations, fill up and continue their advance...

I'm not sure that petrol is that widely used in Russia, even today. I'm under the impression that since most vehicles have to cross execrable terrain, they are mostly given diesel engines. petrol engined cars would normally be found in cities.

In game, I'm not sure that the game makes any difference (I think not to be honest). What exactly happens to captured fuel and/or supplies in game is also a mystery for me so it would be interesting if we can get one.

I think we may implement some small amount to be "captured" and placed to the HQ dumps in the way we do with enemy HQ/Air fields. It would give some immediate boost from capturing supply hubs.

While this is gasoline vs diesel is true I seem to recall something involving captured supplies going through the supply system before being reallocated.

I think the Germans used gasoline in the panzers, thats why capturing our fuel dumps in the Ardennes was so crucial.
