Air Transfer Limit?

How large can an airgroup be?
Last night, at Rabaul, I disbanded a 27 size to a 26 size A6M2. After that, I had 53 planes and 54 pilots.
The next turn, I had 26 operational, 18 repairing and 44 pilots.
The only activity that datai was up to was training at 10%, and no enemy action at Rabaul took place.
The only other fighter group was A6M3, which had its own problems:
It was a mid-May reinforcement from Truk, 9 operational, 6 under repair and just 3 pilots. When I transferred to Rabual 3 pilots flew 8 planes to Rabaul, and the reamainder sat in Rabaul with Zero pilots and an assigned leader. (How can a leader be assigned if not pilots are assigned to pull him from?)

Hi
Please correct me if I am wrong but I think 27 Zeros is the max of operational planes in such a sqaudron. Wrong?

If 27 is the max, and I am fairly certain you are correct, then the program should prohibit over transfer, agreed?
And what happened to 9 Zeros and 10 pilots?

IF I am correct then yes, that would be a good feature to have. What you have done now is to have reserve aircrafts instead and the only good thing about that is that losses are replaced rather quickly. But to have another operational sqaudron is better no?
I have NO idea where you Zeros or pilots went. Replacement pool?

Were they flying anywhere near Bermuda?
Maybe they got lost and had to ditch.

I have experimented around with this some. The number of planes that can be transferred depends on the type of plane and the size of the unit. The different Japanese unit sizes are Daitai, Chutai, Sentai, and Kokutai. The max number of 36 can be transferred if it is a fighter sentai or kokutai. Vals, Betty's, Kates, Nells, Sally's, Helen's, and Peggy's max out at 36 for a kokutai and at 27 for sentai. The night fighters and recon max out at 27 for sentai or kokutai. The Chutai and Daitai have lower limits for each of those types. The Chutai limits fighter units to 9. You will have to play around with the editor some to find all the other limits.

I've experienced similar problems because the transfer screen will allow you to transfer more aircraft to a carrier than it's maximum compliment. The next turn the extra planes are gone.

But you did not tranfer aircraft - you just disbanded an air squadron. There was a thread a few days ago about disbanded and withdrawn airgroups :

Thanks for referencing that thread.
This seems to be an interface/reporting issue.
Would help if we got the results on the trun the disband was done like a combat report:
2/II Datai transfers 9 A6M2 and 8 pilots to 3/I Datai
2/II Datai transfers 4 A6M2 and 9 pilots to POOL
Still does not explain how 8 planes got flown by 3 pilots though...
