I just noticed I have 12 stickies above only 8 topics...what's up with that? Did I hit a wrong button or something?

I see that too and didn't hit any buttons.

In your profile, you can select how far back you view posts counted in day or weeks.
 
If you have selected only 1 week or so, you might only see a few threads.
 
So the answer is yes you did "press a button".

Yep. The stickies have taken over the first page. [:D]

First it was spambots, now it is stickies run run run the aliens have landed.

Does this mean there are less daily new threads posted?

Fear not! All is well...

The forum is like a 1,000 turn PBEM game, you may have to go back a few years in history to fill out that main page.

It's because they deleted a large number of spam posts without resetting the software. It will normalize in a bit.
