Did you allow it to install the .Net and directx functions during install. If I recall you had to be careful when installing them as one asks you to reboot, but if you say yes, the other does not get installed. But I may be mis-remembering, it's been a while since I've even tried to run PCK.

another thing to check is that you have the latest IE8 fix. But I don't think this affects the main game, just some of the editors and random generators.

one other item to check is what your system data format is set to. I seem to recall a problem, which I thought had been fixed in the 1.01 patch, where users that had European system date format had a problem, which could be fixed by switching to US date format, but again, I thought this was fixed with the 1.01 patch.

Thanks

That sounds like a .Net component is missing from the install.

When I was installing [more than once I tried];
I noticed, indeed, that there were two dependencies to correct, popups messages at the same time and one on top of the other and I did not know which one to end, which one to end first, etc. .net complained, yes. SOmething is missing in that or failed to setup/install. I did not do any more of the parentheses as if/and/or/but/then conditional instructions will get a guy crazy.
I am trying again and will return with The Good News [if].

I had a similar problem with PCK only the game starts up but during a custom campaign I created I could not get passed turn 21 or 22 in one of my battles. Everytime I clicked the next turn button the game crashed to the desktop? And I was about to win... ugh.

There are added features to PCO that allow you to post what was happening during game play. Most of the time they help identify the issue that has caused the crash to desktop (CTD).

if this is a current problem, check your logfile in the logs directory.

The one, I think it's the Direct X program is in a pop out in front of the other one. It asks if you want to run it now or wait. Tell it to run it now. Which ever one is in the popout agree to let it install it first.

Good Hunting.

But after it installs, if it tells you ito reboot, don't do it until installation of all components are done, otherwise it skips one.

That's right. You don't want it to reboot until it checks for both updates. They you reboot it manually.

Good Hunting.

I'm not sure what Im looking at here but I've uploaded the log file for your reference. This was the last log file in my folder.

The log file is kept by day, and records signficant game details with time stamps to help identify problems. A new one is created each day. It looks like the pertinent section of the logfile is the section below.

There is a scenario in your scenario forlder that corresponds to the Rxxxxxxxxxxxx. It appears that somehow that file may have gotten corrupted. It may be that file, or scenario file that preceeded it in the campaign was corrupted. the list of scenarios in the campaign is in the Campaign folder in a random campaign file.

Its possilbe you may be able to edit the scenario file to correct it if you have a lot of time invested.

I've created quite a few random campaigns and haven't noted that kind of problem in PCO.

Thanks
rick

In the mean time, no, it does not run. I think the problem is Windows 7 bogus XP compatibility. MS makes a claim that it's XP app compatible, that is not completly true. It is capable of running some software in 2d........ And none in 3d.
It is pretty simple:
Panzer Comand will not work unless it is run on XP or earlier and NOT via emulation.
I cannot make WinXP or earlier work on this modern PC and my three PCs are modern, Windows7/Debian Linux dual boot systems.
I am getting so tired of the buck passing happening among the MSWindows Ecosystem.
Why did not Matrix Games just print, in plain english, that the game I paid good money for is incompatable?
I would not have spent the money.
I am not happy about this.

Show me how I can run it. This MUST have happenned to other users. Never mind DirectX, it workd fine. Never mind .net, it also works fine. There is arguing between the host and the XPemulation layer and I cannot fathom it, I cannot solve this.
I wish for my money back, but I know better than to ask for it.

I'm butting in here and I didn't even read the thread...

BUT

Didn't IE8 rigs need a PzC:K IE8 fix that Stridor uploaded a long while ago?

Remember, Hezekiahbiles is trying to run PzC:Kharkov not PzC:Ost.

I don't think the game itself needs the IE8 fix, I think thats just for the random generators, and editors. But I could be wrong.

Sorry for the problems youre having, but PCK does run on windows 7 64 bit. (that's what I'm running on this system). I don't have it set to run in any compatibility mode as far as I know.

I do seem to recall needing to let PCk install .NET, or having to do somthing with .Net on my win & system. Possibly I needed to set some permissions on Win & to acctually get the correct set of .Net used.

Sorry I'm not more help. Perhaps some of the Windows 7 gurus might have some advice. I do still think it's related to .Net, but I could be wrong.

thanks

ANYWAY.
Yeah, Happy to know someone got it running under win7, that means I may have this game running some day.
I looked at the subforum or whatever linked to above and will read some more.

Yes, I have PCO running on a Windows 7 machine as well. Not in XP emulation either. Just normal settings.

Good Hunting.

Windows 7 64bit working here as well (on a Mac in Bootcamp, no less!).
