To me the map is too dark and grainy, I don't like the giant city things, and I also did not care for the dual icon/NATO symbols but that is because I am old war gamer and I have been playing this for over a year with current map colors, and looking at the screen for 8+ hours at a time if too dark I think your eyes would hurt after a while.
But that is just my opinion and we all know everyone has one and YMMV.

Yeah I am too. Started in the late 70's and progressed to Computer Games in the 80's. Still like the old vintage feel of the new map. As you say my opinion. [8D][;)]

I still play board war games and in fact have played the following titles with my 14 and 10 year old (my 19 and 21 year old never got hooked); Across the Suez, Waterloo, Chancellorsville, Napoleon at Waterloo, Blue & Grey Quad, NAW Quad, 100 Years War Quad, D-Day, Afrika Corps and a few others, currently my 14 year old is playing ASLSK (Advanced Squad Leader Starter Kit) since I have a regular face to face weekly ASL meeting I attend to.
I am a hoarder, and still have my 400+ board war games out in the garage 'hidden' away from my wife, lol, she still thinks I have 40 from when we first met, since I rotate them in and out, and she does not pay attention to the dates, since she thinks most of the companies and people (except me of course) or dead or crazy, so I can just say oh, I have had that game for years dear.
Hell I still have SPI's original War in the East (both 1st and 2nd editions) and I got the old Moves 1-60 or something like that and all the old Generals.
Anyway, GG WitE is the best of the best.

Oh, she does think I am crazy, and I forgot I still have the original GDW DNO and UNT as well as most of the Europa series.

Nice! Now that's a pair of old grog badges of honor.
After one too many moving vans, and wifey-driven consolidation efforts, I now have a carton of GDW pieces & parts...a veritable wargamer's stew of game counters, maps, charts and rules--all mixed together. Next spring I plan to organize all of it...just like I planned to do last year...and the year before.

My secret is I buy 18 gallon plastic containers, (some are blue, black and other colors, that way it's camouflaged from wife unit) and I can get from 10 to 30 war games in a box and I have 15 or 20 of them (lost count) in the garage in various locations, she don't go out there its my cave, just have to be careful of when she wants Easter/Christmas stuff to not grab the SPI container...lol

Thank you, thank you, please be seated, as we grow older its the duty of the old guard to pass on the great secrets they have learned to the younger youths of the world so that they may avoid the conflicts with wife or girlfriend units (please dont try mixing both at once, wife unit will go on power overload and is unpredictable in wattage and damage to your sensitive unit) and then one day it will be your turn to pass on the great secrets to your children as we old guard pass on to the other side.

Yeah, not liking the DMP map. The trees are not consistent - it's hard to tell the light from the heavy forest, the swamps are very hard to notice, the city "images" are very intrusive, and there's tons of artifacts, especially along the rivers.
B+ for effort but a C for execution.

I on the other hand love the DMP map and find it easier to read than the original. Though the original map was also very easy on the eye.
With people creating some great high quality mods it can only enrich the whole community, whether people prefer to play stock or with mods.

While I applaud the effort it's tough to beat the map that ships with the program, in a pefect world it comes with mud and snow as the seasons change but all in all the art with WITE is fantastic across the board IMO.

It looks like good work, the site has a button for English and there seems to be a version of the map which doesn't have the city graphics, just the original Berlin and Moscow symbols. [:)]
