My GE vs SV AI GC 1943 Status

It is now August 43 in my GC 41-45 and my front stretches from Leningrad, Kursk, Stalingrad and down a bit into the Caucasus. I don't have Sevastopol, Leningrad, or Moscow. I do have Stalingrad. I played on Normal until 1943 and switched to Challenging levels.

What I wonder about is I expected a Soviet steamroller by now but all I get is a few isolated attacks here and there but nothing I can't beat off with roaming Panzer's. The Soviet airforce is huge but it seems to hardly be used which seems odd also.

Did I do that good (seems unlikely) or is this the nature of the Soviet AI this late into the game? Or does the steamroller come in 44?

Just looking for some other players experiences. Just seems the Soviets have run out of gas and the turns are rather boring now.

After what I saw in winter41 in my CG I wont trust the AI I tell you. They get me real mad just by their dig-in rate [:D] and I would expect some form of offensive in 43 or 44. Historically in 43 they started by trying to expand the Stalingrad success to huge exploits (destroy AGs A & B basically and reach the Dnepr), they got backhand blown around Kharkov, then they later tried to absorb germany's offensive power before attacking again (even though Stalin wanted to restart offensive actions as soon as Rasputitsa ended but was convinced by his senior advicers). In 44 they where in position to attack more clearly than in 43. So maybe the AI is waiting to see your moves to make his own counterofensive. That would really make me take my hat off if the AI was capable of that.

OOB - I'm playing defensively and not making any aggressive moves in 43'.

K, so it cant be combat power or number of units ;)

Maybe high level fortification along most of the front?

Since other people have complained about suicide attacks by the AI despite it having no real chance to win battles I have actually no clue here.

I kicked up the difficulty to Hard and now I'm under abuse along a good portion of my line in Dec 43. I think my level 5 forts along most of my line dampered the interest in attacking by the AI. But once it breaks through that, it's relentless. I actually have some house rules to not abuse the AI too much and increase my enjoyment.
