Hi there, I am starting a new Pbem on the beta 5 patch 41-45 campaign as the germans, and after reading all the trouble with the harsh 41-42 winter, I am wondering if there is anybody who has played through the first winter as the germans with the beta 5 who could give me feedback on the state of the german army after the 41-42 winter blizzards, are the germans any better off in the beta 5.

Good question. The last i heard the winter is hard coded and can not be MODed. I did not read the list of changes that close but if you can find it you could check but i do not seem to recall anything. The best solution is to read through the forum on how to deal with it. it will start on a certain game turn turn and run for about 3 months. You can stop well ahead and dig in. Also some players concentrate more on creating pockets, and destroying aircraft so as to limit what the Russians have. I think its its worst about 1million men an lots of equipment.
There are some excellent player here with goog advice to help you out.

I myself am reading and rereading the E PDF manual and following the forums for about 6 months before I start a game. Trying to play games of this complexity when first released and then after each patch just got me frustrated before so I am doing it this way because I have a real interest in the East front and I figure if I wait a bit till I am ready it will be better. This means a new PDF E manual download at some future date which Ai will have to read to (SIGH)

Speedy and I are playing a test game that is now at turn 18 so 7 turns to go. The Sovs had been severely weakened by the armaments "feature" but with the fix they are up to strength but below par for experience and morale.We expect that the attrition of the Axis will be unchanged, but their morale and experience levels will be much better than they were with the previous versions. Post blizzard manpower levels had neverbeen a problem but low experience and morale had been.

Also the Sovs should be 500-600k lower on the manpower front compared to earlier versions with lower experience and morale levels, so hopefully the Axis can put together an effective 1942 offensive.

If you have the time perhaps play the Operation Typhoon scenario. This will then give you the info.
