What is the most current official version of the game?

This morning when launching the game I noticed there is a “Check for Update” option on the opening game screen. On a whim I clicked the option. However I noticed that it started downloading v1.02? I canceled the download because I thought that v1.03 was the latest official version of the game?

Your better off downloading the new beta which is stickied on the main page. There have been a number of bug fixes carried out. Such as experience hit on new replacements etc. You can view the FULL change list here http://witewiki.com/index.php/Change_List

EDIT

No v102 is the most updated non beta patch. Its not worth playing though as the betas have solved so many issues.

Ok thanks. Yeah -- I am already running v1.03 Beta 5. That's why I stopped the in game update when I saw what looked like it was updating to v1.02. So I guess the Game screen update option thingy will only update to the most current "official" version of the game.

I bought this game on the day it was released and I think it has many things going for it. What I did not realise when I paid my £70 was that I was not buying a finished product. So far I have had to download six patches and still I read that the "game will only be balanced" when enough people play it who can point out its faults.

35 years ago my first wargame, bought as a present for my fifteenth birthday, was "Drang nach Osten" by GDW. In real terms it probably cost more than WITE but worked "straight out of the box" and is still playable today without amy major modifications.

When I bought WITE I wish someone had written on the Matrix website that "this game will be great when you all find what is wrong with it now".

Yeah, fourth thread this comment has been copy/pasted into.

Yes, because I hoped somebody would reply to it seriously!

Just makes you look like a troll, really.

Start your own thread up, don't copy/paste everywhere. Will be taken more seriously by the decision makers, I'd think.

If the people who asked me for £70 of my money are interesred they will surely respond! That is why I posted in the threads that actually discuss the game. But I have followed your advise. I will be interested if I see a response.

cookie monster you are wrong. Many games get patches but they just improve the existing game but do not change its fundamental workings. I am just wondering why the most expensive game I have ever bought is now being "put right" by the reports of the people who have bought it.

Most computer games do go through patching.

Seriously...Have you never played a Paradox game???

My statements are far from wrong.

I have some sympathy for the troll in that game balance as released was, ummm, let's go with non-optimal. However, the game came with a good editor (admittedly (almost) instruction free) which allows one to deal with some of the more obtrusive imbalances. Sadly, first winter blizzards not being one of them. However, that said, I don't remember the last game that I played that didn't have multiple patches, and not just content patches. Heck, Civ3 was essentially unplayable on anything except small maps as released - yet somehow I am still playing it (prefer it to either 4 or 5, although 5 has a long patch future history ahead of it, so who knows how it will end up). My major gripe with WitE is not that they are addressing issues with patches, I am hard put to see that as anything except admirable - but that they managed to make one use the generic data files to create (or modify existing) scenarios. The patches will of course overwrite those generic files, leaving one with the choice of patching or keeping the mod. Which is annoying.
