I know that you need to have some intel recon about enemy ground troops, but I've ordered recon missions for a month, and still no info about the enemy, and so my bombers didn't fly any mission against them......
what planes do you use to make recon mission? at which altitude?
I used several PBY and a (1)P-38A, but they gathered no info...

I usually fly recon missions over land targets with the P-38 lightning recon units. I fly a few missions in order to gather intell and then attack. You can tell what kind of info you have on ground units because an icon that looks like a colored box with an X in it will appear in the base hex, if you put your mouse pointer over this it will tell you what units you have identified. In order to attack the ground units make the bombers mission ground attack and then click on the X icon in the base hex and they will pound the ground units. Hope this helps.

The number one reason bombers refuse to fly against ground targets is lack of fighter escort. Put a fighter group in with the bombers, and set them to escort.

I agree that from my play there does seem to be something wrong with the "ground attack" mission. From my own play, I have set approximately a dozen bomber groups, with escort and three times the required supplies at a level 7 airbase to attack a ground target within the bomber group and escort group's normal radius, and only one of the bomber groups actually attacks.

In one game I was playing against the AI (as a tune up get myself slaughtered via PBEM), I got dismal results G/A-ing against units in a non-base hex (i.e. undeveloped).
I haven't had a lot of problems with getting missions to go unescorted. I have noticed that the Morale value and the leader's Insp value were lower in those who did not attack.
