I have been experiencing very high morale drops for my Tac Air units (as axis). So I did some testing with a few squadrons using the Op Blue scenario.

The following table shows the morale drop from turn 1 to turn 2.
It also shows losses by way of squadron strength from turn 1 to 2.




It appears the high losses are affecting the morale. But it only seems the Tac bombers are affected so much. Fighters and Level bombers are not losing so much morale. Yet their losses while not as high are not far off.

Nearly all of these losses are from AA fire. Losses from Flak seem too high as other accounts from the eastern front mention most losses came from enemy aircraft and accidents.

This was much the same results in all Tactical bomber units.

My total losses (all aircraft) for first month were 233. Historically it was 251 in opening month. So totals are about right, but I think the breakdown of that needs to be looked at.

I thought I would compare the other side so I looked at the Soviets in the Velikie Luki scenario. The IL-2 squadron there had their morale go up even though they suffered losses and had no kills at all?
This was only a very small test so will do some more with Soviet side.

Looks like there are 2 problems here. Flak is still too strong?
Something is wrong with Tac bomber morale?

Morale drop doesn't look good and needs to be fixed.

Right now flak works very different for different type of missions and in most cases it is actually ineffective. At least this is what our tests show so so far.

According to the Air Losses screen most of my losses come from Flak.
So that would make Operational losses (that is Enemy fighters) Very ineffective!

When it comes to Flak. Was it not more useful in making enemy aircraft miss their targets than shooting them down?

I have been sending my Stuka units back to national reserve every other turn or so, to recover morale. This usually drops to 19. Never realised it was a bug. They do suffer heavy losses, like FB, which I had always assumed was because their attacks were within light AA range.
