Hi !

I just wanted to know wether Matrix's games will be free like SPWW2 (provided you already own SP2/3) or will require some payement, especially SP World at war.

SP:WAW involves so many changes to the original SP series that we've practically redone the code and graphics from the ground up. As a result, it's not feasible to make this downloadable, but it will fit on a CD and it will be as "free" as that medium allows. I expect that the price of SP:WAW will be set to cover just the burning / packing / shipping costs.

The game WILL be made available as a free download. Right now we are not sure if it will be offered as a CD.

We will keep you posted as we figure this mess out. We are even confused ourselves

Yoiks! Better break it up into smaller multiple files for easier digestion over time.

We reccommend folks use a download aid like getright or gozilla so they can resume downloads when they want.

If the queues to DL are like they were for SP:WW2 we want folks to be be able to get teh whole thing in an overnight session, not have to DL chunks over several nights. We will see. We are still weighing our options!

For a large download I would generally use my computer at work which is on a T1 line. To get this to my computer at home, I would like to use a 100MB zip disk. This is an obvious problem for a 150MB single file. I would expect there are a number of others in a similar situation.

So if this is a democracy I vote for a breakdown into at least two sub-100MB chunks.

The game uses a windows based installation routine, its the whole enchilada or nothing.

WinZip supports spanning multiple disks (as to other archive programs), you can use it to span the setup program over two zip disks.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I'd be very willing to send check/money order to cover any expenses if I could just have it on CD. That large of a download scares me! Thanks Matrix!

If there is a CD distribution, that would leave a lot of unused space on the CD. Have you considered putting some historical information related to the game on the CD also? If you don't want to use your own game research data, there are lots of sites where such information would be availible for only the cost of attribution. In some ways this would be shovel-ware but I, for one, would appreciate learning about the forces, terrain, etc. that make up the game without having to cast around for it.

I totally agree.

We wish it wer that simple! There are a lot of issues to be resolved when you are working with things other people have copyright on...

Now when Matrix release its own games, they will ship on CD's with printed manuals.

I am pleased that there will be printed manuals I was expecting only pdf. If you did a manual for Pacific War would you legally be able to sell it ? If so the game cd could come free with it.Most computer books have some sort of "free" cd bound in the back.
