Alternate shipset issues?

OK, guys, after getting better at using the Gimp 2.6.11 programme ( [:D] ), I've been editing
shipsets... oh what fun it is!

If memory serves, RoTS apparently has the ability of alternate shipsets, that is,
that it is possible (?) to simultaneously use different shipsets per ship-class...
is that so?

And if this is so, how does this work?

Hi it requires you to have a second ship family for your race to use.

So let's assume you are using family 0 for yourself. You then have for instance 10 AI empires using families 1-10, you create a new family 11 and fill this with your alternate designs. Then when in the ship design screen click the small arrow next to the ship picture and a drop down selection appears, here you scroll through every single ship graphic in the game and pick one of the ones from your family 11.

Something to make sure of to ensure this works, your new alternate family must have the full amount of 25 (for ROTS) different ship graphics, one for each ship class or it will not show in game.

Hope that doesn't sound too complex.

Feygan is correct. The Star Trek TRSE mod has such a shipset. Note that it doesn't matter what images you use for the fighter and bomber as they don't appear in the list.

Also, if you make the extra shipset the last in the folder. ie family0-10 are for your races and family11 is for your extras, then the these will appear at the very bottom of the list in the design screen.

Real neat, Igard. [8D] BTW, an obvious question: I presume you can use more than one "extra" shipset, up to the game limit of 22, I think it is, correct?

Here are the instructions for using the extra shipset copied from TRSE mod thread :-

How to use the 'Extra' Shipset :-

This shipset is not used by any one race in the game. It's purpose is simply to provide extra ship images for any additional ship designs the player may need. So the player can now have 2 frigate designs etc.

- From the Design Screen, select 'Show non-obsolete designs' from the drop-down menu.
- Select the design of the ship role you want to create another variant of. Click 'Copy as new'
- Click on the ship image combo box. Scroll to the bottom and look for a suitable ship image. There are several images here from different races. There are more ship images for Federation designs than any other race.
- Now design your new ship with it's unique features. I find that naming my ship designs according to what role they have helps. For example, I could have an Escort Frigate that is fast and lightly armed, as well as an Assault Frigate, which is a bit slower and heavily armed.

Caesar, I believe that's correct. So your last shipset would be family21. That's 22 shipsets, family0 -family21.

Wow, this ale heist thing has all the makings of a full blown diplomatic incident.

And like a typical Romulans, they sit back and enjoys all the pandemonium the incident has created...
