So through repeated play, and the dubious help of some downright vicious PBEM opponents, I've got a fairly good grasp on how to design the individual armies, which SU to include and so forth.

Question for the next level though.
At present I try to avoid overloading the CPs of the Fronts and MDs, instead I have 'fire-brigade' armies in reserve attached directly to STAVKA.
But (far as I can figure) this entails having a looong supply-line, which isn't a problem as long as they can stay parked on a railhead.

But the question becomes, once they're needed in combat are you better off leaving them attached to STAVKA, or should you transfer them to the nearest Front HQ, even if this overloads the command?
And if so, how big an overload can the Front handle and still remain operative?

Any good ideas out there?

When possible use all the chain of command.

Use Stavka armies on Moscow/Leningrad aproaches.

Switch over to Reserve Front/Volkhov front a.s.a.p.

Pavel answered a guy once and said Stavka reserves are not ideal. Messes up the combat calculations. Although those calculations are still shrouded in mystery.

If you play me, assign all units to Transcaucasus, then march them there please.  Also, do not build any more units.  That is all.

Would almost be worth it just to observe the look of disbelief when the German recon-planes return with pictures of 600 miles of Russian landscape devoid of any defenders whatsoever. [:D]
