Any suggestions for taking Crimea? Those hexes appear impenetrable...

A stack of three infantry, with pioneers, can blow through the isthmus. Done right, with at least 6 divisions, the first two lines can be cleared with deliberate attacks, then the Soviets have to defend a larger circle (likely with lower entrenchments), and the Crimea is yours.

And for what it's worth, busting into the Crimea is one of those "oh crap" moments for opponents. There is nothing like smashing two rows of level 3 forts in one turn to make the morale of the enemy decline a bit.

Make it a priority and commit the troops.

In the second world war, the USA built many aircraft carriers to take on the Japanese navy (and won).

The USSR has one giant aircraft carrier. It's called the Crimea. Don't take it and when the USSR can put bombers en masse there during 1942 and start to escort them with reasonable long range fighters, your oilfields in Romania are toast. Badly burned toast, with smouldering bits of charcoal on top.

I didn't pay attention to the Crimea in 41 and just had the Romanians cover it in the winter. Ooops. Now 1st Panzer Army is down trying to contain the mess that the completely destroyed Romanian Army left behind. Good lesson learned, reminds me to update my AAR....
