Editor Question

Looking at this image, I have three questions

1. Is the "max load" number what is used to determine how much can be carried in a "Transport" mission?
2. What is DT ordinance?
3. The PBY is not float capable. For that matter neither is the SOC. Is this just for the Japanese a/c that could fly combat missions?

Most probably. It worked that way in WITP.

Also, what does the "Crew" field means?

This weird Japan helicopter have "float capable" in database. Maybe it is something with CV planes, which can also operate as float planes?

Can't answer all your questions but "float capable" is used for those planes that are transports that were seaplanes like the H6K2-L Mavis(681)

As far as I can tell Herrnear is correct. The "float plane capable" box is for those aircraft with primary roles that are not float planes like the aforementioned H6K2-L Mavis (transport) and the Shark II (torpedo bomber).

If so, that leads to a question about the PBY series or for that matter the H6K4/5 Mavis. This are listed just as patrol but not "float plane capable" nor "amphibian". Does this mean they need at least a level 1 AB to fly? If so, that rings wrong as especially the USN would put AVD's at forward positions supporting PBY without an AB present. Now, I do not pretend to understand all the nuances of AE so I fully understand I may be missing something here. As it appears in the editor it looks like the game would view the PBY-5 (not 5A) the same as say a PBJ Mitchell.

For those in the know, is that correct?

Also, I searched the entire Scenario one DB and did not find a single plane with the "DT ordinance" boix checked. Hmmmm.

2. What is DT ordinance?

I presume DT = 'Drop Tank'

what does the "Crew" field means?

"Crew is the number of pilots." (editor manual)
This weird Japan helicopter have "float capable" in database. Maybe it is something with CV planes, which can also operate as float planes?

"Any Float plane or Float fighter may be based on a Battleship, Heavy Cruiser, CS, or other non-carrier type ship that has the capacity to carry aircraft. Aircraft Carriers (including Light Carriers and Escort Carriers) cannot carry float planes. Float planes, float fighters, and patrol planes can be based at any friendly airfield, including those that are size 0 as long as they are on a coastal hex." (Game manual)

So the 'float capable' indicates any aircraft capable of operating from a non-carrier vessel, which would explain why it's being used for the Kayaba autogyro. At the same time, it looks like anything with 'float capable' set can operate from coastal size 0 airfields.

"Crew is the number of pilots." (editor manual)
So, what does it do in game terms?
I do not see anywhere "number of pilots" in game.

Does it increase VP for plane? Do I need to have 2 PILOTS per plane, for all of them to take off? Can I lost 2 pilots, if plane is shot down? Do I get TWO pilots, when I get replacements? But what happens, when I Request Veteran?
And if plane uses TWO pilots, whos statistics are used during combat/bombarding?

Also, in WITP "MAX LOAD" was used to determine damage done by Kamikaze.

The crew number was just for completeness; to indicate how many aircrew these planes flew and could be killed. It has no bearing on the game.
Trying to keep track of the 'crew' as pilots was too difficult under the current game structure; in stock WITP, just keeping track of one pilot was often a nightmare.[:D]

I presume DT = 'Drop Tank'
Drop tanks were often used in place of bomb hard points, thus a plane might carry either a DT or a bomb, not both.

IIRC, a tick here means that a drop tank and bomb can both be carried at the same time. Otherwise the external bomb and drop tank might replace each other.

All "patrol" type aircraft can land on water, therefore there is no need to tick the "float capable" box.  "float capable" is for any non-patrol aircraft that can land on water.

AH, that makes sense. Looking now I see the PBJ is a level bomber not a Patrol. The PBY4-1 Liberator is a heavy Bomber not a Patrol.

Correct. Just as Float planes by default are 'float capable'

I have a question on a different screen in the editor.

For HQ's, there are two tick boxes for "restricted".  One is "Restricted Temp", the other is "Restricted Permanent".  The second is self-evident, but how does the first one ("temp") work?

Also, how do I attach a unit to a restricted HQ but still allow for a change in the HQ? (Like what happens with certain air units attached to the West Coast HQ or the Australian Hudson unit attached to the Dutch MLD HQ).
