Apologies for a newb question but am trying to transfer game played on one PC to another. Have sent file via email but am having trouble running it, says I have trouble running .pws file, despite the fact I am running AE on the other computer already....Any suggestions from my betters?

Why are you trying to "run" the pws file? Put the pws file into your save folder and then load it from the load saved game menu inside the game.

Sorry for my poor choice of words. I did save into into the Game itself (into the Save folder) but still not recognizing it when try to start up via the saved game menu. Says 'Unable to run saved game' or something to that effect....Thx much for responding

OK, got it.

Makes it sound like the save file is corrupted, yes? Have him/her send the file again. You could try having them zip the file first. Then, when you go to unzip it you will be notified if the .zip file was corrupted in transit. That kind of problem is certainly possible.

Another thing, maybe a stupid question: you are both running the same game? If you are running War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition and your opponent is running the old War in the Pacific (or vice versa) that certainly won't work. The software is very different and so are the save game files.

Noted and thanks. Will try zipping it first and see how it goes. Both versions are AE so think safe on that front.

That does not seem to be the issue per se. Anyone else ever experience something similar?

Have sent to other PC via email, also burned to disc and tried to load directly, but no luck. Getting warning message that says 'unable to find PW data'. That happen to ring a bell with anyone?

Did you check if the AE version is the same?

An exact description of the error message would also be helpful.

'unable to find PW data'

Is it possible that you are trying to launch a single player file as PBEM?

altho' i only play 'gainst the AI, i have rec'd the 'Unable to run saved game' msg.

it comes up when i try to load a turn (.pws file) that i'd moved from the 'autosave' dir into the 'SAVE' dir. that is, i'd not saved the game properly before exiting AE. while Tracker can read the file, AE is unable to open it.

so it might be that the prob is on your opponent's end, he might have to replay his turn, & send you a replacement pwsfile.

I wonder if you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista and there is some protection or privilege issue involved?

This error happens when you start up the game, not when you load a save.
You need to be a bit more precise about what error you are getting.

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't load an 'auto save' file as long as the name is correct. The current auto save names have the game date attached to them (wpae025_#35_19430615.pws), so you need to rename them.
