i send damaged ships to port to repair and get replacement crew.where does the replacements come from as it does not appear to be the draft pool?[&:]
the reason im asking is that im regularly doing 15-30000 casualties to a combined french/spanish fleet using port attacks yet i dont appear to be having any real affect. does that mean they can replace these casualties indefinatly without any detriment to their nations?[&:][:D]

Naval replacements are done differently. Naval losses are measured by damage to the ship, not the crew.
When you inflict damage (like maybe 150-300?) you are doing damage to the ships, not the crews. The crews are so small compared to the land replacements they are just rolled into the system.
If you had been truely causing 15,000 to 30,000 naval casualties in real life, there would not be a Frenchmen with naval experience left after a few months. I think at its peak during this period, even the Royal Navy had a naval strength worldwide of about 150,000, with maybe 200,000 merchantmen.

when i said losses of 15-30 thousand that is what i am told in the battle reports along with the note that it was a huge battle.normal battle damage ranges from a few hundred to a couple of thousand if i do well in the pursuit.[:'(]
when you include all royal navy forces(ships of the line'frigates'cutters schooners'training establishments etc)naval strength was much larger than 150;000.considerably larger than britains standing army at the time. at this period the navy was THE premier service in all regards(in the same way that other nations would treat their armies! )
even britain would not have been able to replace the casualties the reports say i am doing which is why i asked the question of where the replacements are coming from.[:D] i was aware that docks repaired ships but did not realise that included crews[:-] that will make real control of the seas almost impossible[:@]

Control of the seas is quite possible. Gaining control of the seas through port raids is much more difficult, but outside of Copenhagen, I can't think of a major port raid during this period.
