Expansion of Factory Capacity

The manual says that factories are supposed to expand from their initial capacity to the factory limit by, e.g., 1 per week (if the expansion rate is 1) until that capacity is reached. This seems to work just fine for on map factories but not at all for off map factories. I am playing as the Axis and have modded the production capacity for both the Axis and the SU so this might be limited to factories I have modded. Whether this latter point is true or not, this is not the way the manual says it should happen. Some clarification on this would be welcome.

Some certain factories (AFV,AC) expand to the build limit regardless of their location.

Thanks for the reply. That was my expectation Pavel; it is not my reality where the AFV and AC factories in off map cities have not grown at all, over many months. Works as expected in on map cities though. I am going to have a look and see whether the off-map issue is only with modded factories.

Bill, you may post your scenarios or save, so I could have a look.

Thanks again Pavel; had a closer look at this and the issue is not universal. I will use Kassel as an example:
- added one PzIII L/42 factory @ 4/wk; it is now producing the correct number of PzIIIn's
- converted the PzIIIn factory to a PzIIIg @ 4/wk factory; it upgraded to the correct capacity for PzIIIg and PzIIIj L/60 but has not increased the capacity on the upgrade to PzIIIm's (shows 1 damaged)
- did not alter the StuGIIIb initial rate and it added capacity correctly; did change the IIIf cap in the generic file and it has not added capacity on the upgrade (1 damaged)
- it appears I added '1' to the initial capacity for PzIVf's (not sure why) but it went to the cap correctly; I screwed up f2's inadvertently (switched start and end dates) but converted to IVg's correctly - but cap stalled (1 damage)
- added an HS123A factory @ 1/wk; don't think it ever added capacity (don't have a save pre-upgrade) and is now stuck making 1 HS129B/wk. Not going to be the difference maker originally thought (although SU AFVs are invulnerable to air attack anyway, so this one doesn't matter)
- reduced the original capacity of 251/1's and they grew correctly; same for Bf110E-2's
- added 2 Armaments, 6 Resources, 4 Heavy industry and 3 Vehicle factories, all at 'Damage 1', i.e. 1% efficiency. This was to simulate a mid-41 decision to start going to a war economy a little earlier than actually occured. They all show still damaged but I am 52 weeks in so that is correct - although I don't know how to determine the damage level for off-map so don't know if they are stalled at 1% or are now at 53%, as they should be.
So it looks like where I upgraded the capacity limit in the generic files, this has created issues for off map factories (resulting in '1 damaged' when both the element and the capacity are upgrade). Strangely (or not, as I don't know the algorithms obviously), there are no such issues with on map factories. Except maybe, after another look, for Resources, Heavy Industry, etc. Added some of both of those to Berlin at 1% for the reasons outlined above. Berlin shows the initial values for these with no damage level.
I can attach various files if you are interested (do I need to zip them first?). Have started modding the generic files again to incorporate what I have learned in my first year of play but pretty sure I have a save of the relevant generic file somewhere.
So all my factories that haven't reached the correct cap show damage. I am sort of assuming that they are invisibly doing the correct thing and self-repairing and in a little under two years, I will get some of that intended cap. A new question from this: do factories repair in parallell or series (e.g. if I am 4 factories under the cap and showing damage, do I get that capacity in 99 weeks or 399 weeks (in time for NATO)?

Sorry Pavel, one bit of wrong info above: the PzIIIg factory did go to the correct capacity for IIIg's but stalled there on the upgrade to IIIj L/60s. Same reason - damage 1. This is much more consistent with the rest.

Bill,
do factories repair in parallell or series
Factories repair all the the same time, i.e. in parallel (I'm a bit confused if we speak about damage or expansion?)
I can attach various files if you are interested (do I need to zip them first?)
Yes, zip format is the one supported.

Pavel, I do mean expansion but the production screen shows Capacity and Damage columns. Where I am having issues is where there is a '1' in the damage column. Files to follow.

Factories won't be expanding till they have 0 damage.

Got it. Indeed off-map factories do not repair correctly. And once they set to damage 1 they can't be expanded. [:@]
Good catch, Bill. Thanks.

Your welcome. Oh well, easy enough to mod around until patched.
