I'm sure someone mentioned a while ago that WitW was in alpha testing already.

Is this true?

If so, can we have a screenshot or two of the map? Pretty please?

Can I ask a couple o' things about it too:

1. Does it cover Norway and France 40?
2. Does it cover the desert war?
3. Or is it basically Italy/France/Germany 43-45?
4. Is the scale exactly the same as WitE?
5. Is my granddad - who was in the Welsh Guards - going to be correctly modelled?

And can WitW be combined with WitE for GG's War in Europe? Or will that be the 3rd game in the series?

And will Hitler's death in 'Inglorious Bastards' be modeled? :-)

I believe War in the West will cover 43-45.
The next game after that covers the war in africa. Hopefully the invasion of italy as well.
Then the last game will be War in Europe that joins the three games together as well as adds some new stuff, such as production.
Hopefully it's the full war from 39-45.

Not true. So far basic data arrangements are ongoing.

43-45? But what about the glory days of the Reich? That time span would commit the poor Axis player to a funeral march to the grave. No conquering armies, no parades in Paris, no rolling over the Poles, no battles in the deserts of Libya. Why would anyone bother playing the Axis?

It hasn't been decided whether to include the 39-40 campaigns yet. I'm sure time will be the major factor. Africa will be a separate game.

I am curious as well on question 4, the game's scale.... Is WiTW going to be primarily divisional like WiTE, or perhaps regimental, especially as I imagine North Africa and Italy in the third game would be much more suited for the latter scale.

Absolutely. At WitE scale, there would only be about ten units on each side in the desert!

Even in France, if the geographical and unit scale of WitE is transposed, WitW would hardly be a 'monster game'. The Germans had, what, four or even five times as many divisions in the East in 1944/45, if you include Axis allies?

And geographically, Northern France and Western Germany is much smaller than the Ukraine, let alone the Eastern Front.

You'd imagine, then, that instead of Corps HQs directing divisions as the primary unit of maneuvre as in WitE, we'll see Divisional HQs directing regiments in the West. Imagine simulating Market Garden at WitE scale: the scenario map would be about four hexes long!

So the unit/hex scale is going to be different to WitE - either that or WitW will be a much smaller, quicker, presumably cheaper, beast than WitE.

I agree that the unit scale would have to be different for these three games, but given that I don't see how it's possible to "combine" them into one big mega-game called War in Europe.

I also certainly hope that the development team isn't working on another game just yet, since many people seem to be in agreement that WITE still needs work. I personally hope the next game is the equivalent of an "Admiral's Edition" for WITE.

Hey, my kind of game! four by four hexes, 5 minutes of gameplay! [:)]

As in something like the SPI game that tracked individual pilots and cans of water? Me and my friends called it The Quartermaster Desert Campaign of Hell.

It would be cool if the naval aspect was like witp having to form convoys to supply the med and to have off board boxes representing the US and canada to send convoys to England.
Also the ability to intedict rail movement will have to be really addressed as it was a major part of the witw.

Wouldn't any of those campaigns feel like a sideshow to WitE?

You mean CNA? The Campaign for North Africa. I remember the Italians used more water than the Germans as the Italians were cooking pasta!
Cool but unplayable!

I'd love to see a battalion-level CNA using this engine, but we'll have to wait and see.

CNA...there are memories in that. Not necesarily good memories, but memories.

Indeed.
IMHO if the same game engine and the same scale are to be kept, WitW would only have sense as an addition to WitE more than a standalone game. Consider it an add-on for WitE Axis players that want to micromanage production and unit trasfers! [:D]

I m just curious how many people will cry that WitW is unfairly balanced. I believe Germans had even less chances for a victory in the West compared to East front...

Also, how do you model Ultra?
