◦At the scenario level, you can choose to play the normal 40 Second Orders / 40 Second Reaction turn structure, or choose one of the following instead
40 Second Orders with or without a Reaction Phase
?¡60 Second Orders with or without a Reaction Phase
?¡80 Second Orders without a Reaction Phase

See what it says up there? 40 second Orders with OR WITHOUT a Reaction Phase.

I ask again can we play this game with just a 40 second turn?

Another snippet from the info page:
New Scenario-Based Turn Structure options, including no Reaction phase

Yes...you can force any scenario into a simple 60 second turn through the options screen.  For 40s, the scenario has to have been built that way.

Yes  you can.

What you can't do is to force a scenario that's been created by the designer to use any phase sequence, other than the one he used to create the battle with, to change to anything other than a 60 second orders phase with no reaction phase.

Otherwise the only way the various phase sequences can be applied is by setting the phase sequence in the Scenario Editor.

Oh so it's only player made scenarios that can be 40 second turns without a reaction phase?

I wanted to play 40 second random generated campaigns. So I can only play 40/40 or 60 second random generated stuff.... right?

As I told you in the other rant, you can play random battles at 40 seconds but not random campaigns.

This thread wasn't about RANDOM anything. J2D answered your concerns about random scenarios/campaigns in the thread you started about the randoms.

As I told you in the other rant,

Neither this or the other threads were RANTS and I'd appreciate you not attaching labels to my QUESTIONS as such and attacking me. I'm a customer here (whether I get it free or not) and I expect to be treated with respect whether you like me or not. [:)]

The Product Info page led me to believe differently than you said in the other thread and I've pointed it out. I'm trying to find out EXACTLY what FEATURES include 40 second turns.

So I'll put them very bluntly again:

Can I play random anything with 40 second turns without it having to be player made anything? You already stated no 40 second campaigns, ok accepted. What about 40 second random SCENARIOS? That's what the info page leads me to believe is possible.

Lol Charles now you look like you are just trying to get something started. [:)]

I'm a serious gamer and my purchases are serious. I don't just buy or recommend any ole game because it has fancy smancy graphics like most out there. One can be grateful for a meal, but, that doesn't preclude them from wanting PIE. [:)]

I can't speak to 'anything', but yes, I just tested that feature and you can generate a Random Battle with a 40:0 phase structure (thanks to J2Ds quick work).

thanks
Rick

Thanks Rick that's basically all I wanted to know. I can WISH it worked with the RANDOM campaigns though.

What I'd truely like to see is a player decides how many seconds between turns from 5 seconds to 2 minutes? I have no clue how hard that would be to program though but it is one of my wishes.

Thanks again. [:)]

Just curious, but why are there limitations about choosing 40-60-80 sec turns with or w/O reaction phase ? I mean why can't the player play anything with the structure he wants ? Balance issues, AI constraints ??

They weren't coded into the options selections. Otherwise there are no limitations.

there may be some play balance issue, it's hard to say since they weren't tested that way. In the full game, you'll see that MR created some scenarios that he tweaked for the different turn structures.

It wouldn't be too difficult for you to take the existing scenarios and use them to create new ones with the turn structure you like. But if you do that, remember to give it a revised scenario name as well as a new file name.

Thanks
rick

I am completely confused now.

Can I edit a scenario to have a 30 second order and a 30 reaction?

No.

The sequences for PCO scenarios are:

40 second orders phase - no reaction phase

40 second orders phase - 40 second reaction phase

60 second orders phase - no reaction phase

60 second orders phase - 60 second reaction phase

80 second orders phase - no reaction phase

Good Hunting.

The only way I would play w/out a reaction phase is if we get a (Defend->Reverse) or an (Engage->Reverse) option for repositioning certain units in a platoon in the orders phase.

That's your choice. There will be others that will want to only play without the reaction phase.

Me! Me! Me!

and who in the world would want to play an 80 second orders phase AND an 80 second reaction phase? You might as well not even be playing. That's nearly 3 minutes of just sitting there milking goats. [:)]

A 40:40 is basically an 80 second turn with the ability to give your units a retreat or targeting order. It's not as bad as it sounds.

Good Hunting.
