Low Resource Maps

Here is an example of using lower resources on a map.

The Olive Drab color will be hi res models and the black will have low res models. You can see that there is a good amount of the forested area that will get low res models.

This all helps with resource management.

The battle will take place in the white area, which is the village. This means that outlying areas of the map that won't see action can have the lower res models used without affecting what a gamer will see 95% of the time on this map.

It will help that this map will be a winter map and there will be no grass and the trees will be without leaves. Only the pine trees will be a larger resource structure besides the buildings.

Good Hunting.

I don't know if other game editors allow you to choose between making your maps low or hi resource or not but PCO does. There are a complete set of trees, which are the highest resource uses on a map, for PCO in both low and hi resolution for the designer to pick from.

Here is another example of how to use the Low Res models for forest on a map.

The olive drab is 3D tree models and the black is Low Res LOD.

The attack on this map will come from the south. I put only 3D models in that area. While on the north side of the village where I expect no fighting I put the low res models in the black area.

Good Hunting.
