Armour strength during an Assault

Refer to P19 of the manual. Note that an Armoured unit has an attack strength and a defence strength. Both of these refer to combat against non-Armoured units.

An Armoured unit also has an AT Strength for firing against opposing Armoured units.

And it has a Armour Strength used in defending against Direct AT Fire.

When I read the Assault section including page 77, I get the impression that Armoured units use their Attack and Defence values in an Assault and their AT Strength and Armour Strength are only used in the Direct Fire phase.

What do others think?

I'd agree.

Assault odds are calculated on the Attack Strength or Defense Strength * Quality * Modifying Factors. Antitank Strength or Armour Value are not included.

AT Strength and Armour value come into play in the Direct Fire phase.

Cheers

I agree. I feel AT and armour strength apply more to ranged fire even tho the range can be 1 hex. It might seem a contradiction but assaulting a position requires a different deployment than direct/oppurtunity fire.
